OpenAI CEO India summit discussions in New Delhi focused on how artificial intelligence will affect jobs and growth, according to Mint (Livemint), “OpenAI’s Sam Altman: AI will definitely impact job market, but ‘we’ll find better things to do’,” published February 18, 2026.

What OpenAI CEO India summit remarks covered

Sam Altman told ANI that AI will change the job market, yet he expects people to adapt as technology evolves. He said new types of work have followed past shifts in innovation.

Altman also described India as a global leader in AI adoption. He said the country is moving toward becoming one of the largest markets for the technology.

The India AI Impact Summit 2026 is taking place in Delhi from February 16 to February 20. It is the first global AI summit hosted in the Global South. Policymakers, researchers, industry leaders, and civil society groups are attending.

OpenAI India expansion and Industry partnerships

OpenAI India expansion has gained pace as India becomes the company’s second-largest user market. After opening its first office in New Delhi last year, OpenAI is now exploring new locations in Mumbai and Bengaluru to support its growing presence.

During the summit, Reliance-owned JioHotstar also revealed a new partnership with OpenAI. The collaboration will bring ChatGPT-powered content discovery to the platform, using natural voice-based interaction features.

Jobs, automation, and government focus

OpenAI CEO India summit comments came as automation raises concerns for routine and repetitive roles. Workers in both blue-collar and white-collar sectors have flagged possible displacement in areas such as factory tasks, coding, and content work.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also addressed the summit. He called for democratising AI and urged transparent data-sharing systems. Modi introduced India’s MANAV Vision, linking AI development to broader welfare goals.

OpenAI CEO India summit sessions will continue through February 20 as global leaders discuss governance, innovation, and workforce change tied to artificial intelligence.
