Glassdoor layoffs were confirmed in an internal notice shared by Recruit Holdings on December 11, 2025, as the company reorganised operations across multiple regions to expand its AI hiring tools. The update outlined a reduction of about 1,300 roles and explained how automation is reshaping services for job seekers and employers.

What changed?

Recruit Holdings said the decision forms part of a broader restructuring across its HR technology businesses. The company will reduce staffing in research, engineering, human resources, and sustainability functions at both Glassdoor and Indeed.

The update noted that the 1,300 job cuts represent roughly 6% of its global HR tech workforce.

Indeed restructuring and leadership shifts

Plans under Indeed restructuring include consolidating Glassdoor’s operations into the Indeed platform. Recruit reported that Glassdoor CEO Christian Sutherland-Wong has stepped down on October 1, 2025.

The company also stated that Indeed’s Chief People and Sustainability Officer will leave later in the year, with a successor chosen from internal teams.

Glassdoor layoffs and their industry impact

The job cuts add to a rising number of layoffs in the tech sector in 2025. Multiple global firms have reduced staff as they increase spending on AI-driven products.

Recruit said its updated tools now enable a job match every 2.2 seconds, and it plans to streamline teams to support faster product development.

Why Recruit Holdings is restructuring?

In his message to employees, CEO Hisayuki “Deko” Idekoba said fast-changing hiring technology requires the company to redesign its product model. He noted that AI is now central to how job seekers and employers interact with recruitment platforms.

Recruit Holdings has owned Indeed since 2012 and Glassdoor since 2018. The company operates recruitment platforms in more than 60 countries.

What lies ahead?

Recruit stated that the new structure aims to strengthen AI-based hiring systems. The company also said more adjustments may follow as automation becomes a larger part of its platform operations.
