Hilton has appointed Michael Schmitt as Cluster General Manager for its flagship properties on Yas Island. With this move, the company aims to sharpen its strategic focus on one of the UAE’s most dynamic leisure and entertainment destinations.
Schmitt will oversee three key properties: Hilton Abu Dhabi Yas Island, The WB Abu Dhabi Curio Collection by Hilton, and DoubleTree by Hilton Abu Dhabi Yas Island Residences. Together, these hotels form a diverse portfolio catering to leisure travellers, families, and long-stay guests.
Two Decades of Global Hospitality Leadership
Schmitt brings over 20 years of international experience across Asia Pacific and the Middle East. Most recently, he served as General Manager at Conrad Dubai, where he enhanced the property’s positioning in the luxury segment.
Earlier in his career, he led operations at Waldorf Astoria Chengdu and held leadership roles at Conrad Xiamen, Hilton Dalian, and Hilton Hua Hin Resort & Spa.
Moreover, his track record includes successful hotel openings, repositioning strategies, and consistent revenue growth. Notably, he also earned recognition as Asia General Manager of the Year, reflecting his strong operational and commercial capabilities.
Driving Growth in a Competitive Leisure Destination
In his new role, Schmitt will lead operations and growth strategy across Hilton’s Yas Island cluster. He will focus on improving guest experience, strengthening brand positioning, and boosting commercial performance.
“I’m delighted to take on this role at such an exciting time for Yas Island,” Schmitt said. “Each property offers a distinct experience. Together, they create a compelling destination for travellers.”
His appointment comes as Yas Island continues to attract global tourists with its mix of waterfront lifestyle, entertainment venues, and business infrastructure.
Yas Island: A Strategic Growth Market for Hilton
Yas Island has emerged as a major tourism and events hub in Abu Dhabi. It combines theme parks, retail, and hospitality offerings, making it a key pillar in the emirate’s tourism strategy.
By consolidating leadership under Schmitt, Hilton aims to create stronger synergies across its properties. As a result, the company expects to enhance operational efficiency while delivering a seamless guest experience.
