The Intel AI PC platform was unveiled by Intel at CES 2026 in Las Vegas on January 6, introducing Core Ultra Series 3 processors built on the Intel 18A process to expand on-device AI computing across consumer laptops and edge systems.
What the Intel AI PC platform introduces
The Intel AI PC platform is built around the new Core Ultra Series 3 processor family, also known as Panther Lake. Intel said the platform will support more than 200 PC designs. Consumer laptops powered by the chips will begin shipping later this month.
The processors combine CPU, GPU, and AI acceleration into a single system-on-chip design. As a result, Intel aims to improve performance while lowering overall power consumption. The platform also maintains compatibility with existing x86 software.
Intel CES 2026 launch focuses on on-device AI
At the Intel CES 2026 launch, the company positioned the platform around local AI processing rather than cloud dependence. Top configurations offer up to 16 CPU cores, 12 Xe-cores, and up to 50 TOPS of neural processing performance. Integrated Intel Arc graphics support gaming and graphics workloads.
Intel stated that the new chips deliver higher multithread performance and longer battery life compared with earlier generations. Pre-orders for consumer laptops begin January 6. Global availability starts January 27.
Impact on laptops, edge systems, and industry
Alongside premium laptops, Intel announced Core-branded processors using the same architecture for mainstream devices. These models target lower price points while sharing the same platform foundation.
For the first time, Intel is certifying Core Ultra Series 3 processors for embedded and industrial edge use cases.
These include robotics, smart cities, industrial automation, and healthcare systems. Edge platforms are expected to launch in the second quarter of 2026.
Intel said the Intel AI PC platform improves performance per watt across AI workloads and reduces total cost of ownership by integrating compute components into a single chip.
