Mandarin Oriental has announced the appointment of Sandro Mazza as General Manager in Muscat, following his previous role as Director of Operations at Mandarin Oriental Al Faisaliah in Riyadh. He brings extensive luxury hospitality experience across Oman, the Middle East, Europe and Asia.

Mazza’s appointment adds to his senior hospitality experience across multiple markets, including previous management roles in Muscat. His career includes more than 16 years with Shangri-La Group, where he progressed through operational and general management positions.

Sandro Mazza brings luxury hospitality experience

Mazza served as General Manager of Shangri La Al Husn Resort & Spa in Muscat from January 2019 to October 2022. The property comprises 180 rooms and suites and includes several dining venues and a spa.

Before that, he was Resident Manager at Shangri La Barr Al Jissah Resort & Spa in Muscat. The resort has 460 guest rooms and suites, 13 food and beverage venues and banquet facilities for up to 850 guests. Mazza oversaw more than 800 employees during peak season.

His Shangri La career also included roles in Singapore, Beijing, Hong Kong and the Maldives. These positions covered front office management, rooms operations and resident management.

Mandarin Oriental experience in Riyadh

Before taking the General Manager role in Muscat, Mazza served as Director of Operations at Mandarin Oriental Al Faisaliah in Riyadh. He held the position from September 2024 to July 2026.

He also worked as General Manager at Kempinski Hotels in Amman from October 2022 to February 2024. Earlier in 2024, he served as Hotel Manager on a special project at Hotel Adlon Kempinski Berlin.

His earlier career began with InterContinental Hotels Group, followed by roles at Madinat Jumeirah and The Fullerton Hotel and The Fullerton Bay Hotel. He later joined Shangri La in 2006.

Sandro Mazza’s academic background

Mazza holds a Bachelor of Arts in Hotel and Restaurant Management from Hotel & Restaurant Management College, Emil Fischer, in Berlin. He also completed certificates in Hotel Administration and Management at Cornell University and Digital Communication and Media at Squared Online.

His professional profile lists luxury goods, project management and luxury lifestyle among his top skills.

The appointment brings Mazza back into a General Manager role in Muscat after his earlier leadership positions in the city. His experience across luxury hospitality and multiple international markets forms the background to his new position at Mandarin Oriental.
