Moaiad Aqel returns to talabat Qatar

Before his appointment, Aqel served as Managing Director of talabat Bahrain from July 2022. In that role, he led the company’s strategic direction, commercial growth and operations.

Earlier, Aqel spent more than three years in Doha as Director of Sales for talabat Qatar. He also served as Head of Account Management for talabat in Saudi Arabia.

His experience across Qatar, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia gives him a background in managing commercial activities across different GCC markets. The company has not disclosed further details about the leadership transition.

Managing Director role focuses on growth and partnerships

As Managing Director of talabat Qatar, Aqel will lead the company’s continued growth in the country. His responsibilities include strengthening relationships with customers, partners and riders.

He will also focus on operational excellence and creating greater everyday value across the platform. These priorities place customer relationships, partner engagement and operational performance within his remit.

For talabat, the appointment brings a former Qatar sales leader back to oversee the wider business. Aqel’s previous experience in the market provides continuity as he takes on broader responsibility.

talabat highlights internal leadership development

Bader Al-Ghanim, Chief International Officer at talabat, said the appointment reflects the company’s approach to developing leaders from within its business.

“Developing strong leaders from within has always been an important part of how we build for the future,” Al-Ghanim said.

He added that Aqel’s appointment would provide continuity in leadership while bringing a fresh perspective to the opportunities ahead.

Al-Ghanim also highlighted Aqel’s ability to bring teams together, make informed decisions and translate market opportunities into growth. He linked these capabilities to the company’s plans for its Qatar business.

The appointment provides an example of talabat placing an experienced internal leader in a country-level managing director role. Aqel’s progression from sales and account management responsibilities to managing director positions spans several markets within the company.

Aqel brings experience across multiple sectors

Beyond his more than 10 years at talabat, Aqel has over 18 years of professional experience across food delivery, e-commerce, hospitality, sales and business growth.

According to the announcement, his career has involved developing high-performing teams, building strategic partnerships and driving customer-focused growth.

Aqel said Qatar had played an important role in his career at talabat and welcomed the opportunity to return in a new capacity. He said he would work with the local team to build on existing foundations, strengthen partnerships and improve customer experiences across Qatar.

The appointment aligns with talabat’s stated focus on developing experienced leaders internally and maintaining its long-term commitment to the Qatar market.
