The Sharjah Executive Council (SEC) also approved the launch of the Khatwa (Step) licence for university and higher education students. The licence will allow students to conduct economic activities and develop business ideas into ventures.
Sharjah airport to recruit 150 passport control officers
The recruitment of 150 passport control officers will take place in three phases from October, according to the SEC.
The hiring plan comes as Sharjah International Airport records growth in passenger and flight numbers. The airport is also undergoing development projects.
The recruitment will create new opportunities for Emirati talent. It will also support skills development and career progression in the aviation sector.
For employers and workforce planners, the move adds to Sharjah’s focus on building local talent pipelines around expanding economic activity.
Khatwa licence opens business opportunities for students
Alongside the airport hiring plan, the SEC approved the Khatwa licence for university and higher education students.
The initiative will allow eligible students to undertake economic activities while developing their business ideas. It aims to give young people practical experience in managing projects and running ventures.
The programme is also expected to support the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). In addition, it could increase student participation in Sharjah’s economy and create further employment opportunities.
The initiative links higher education with practical business experience. It also gives students a route to test and develop ideas while still studying.
Sharjah reviews GDP data to improve economic planning
The SEC also reviewed a report on Sharjah’s gross domestic product (GDP). The Department of Statistics and Community Development prepared the review.
The exercise aims to expand the coverage of Sharjah’s economic activity. It will also improve the accuracy of GDP estimates by using more data sources and covering more sectors.
According to the SEC, the updated estimates will provide economic indicators for planning and decision-making. They will also offer a broader view of Sharjah’s contribution to the UAE economy.
The council directed government entities to coordinate the review. The aim is to ensure that the final results reflect the size and diversity of Sharjah’s economy.
Sharjah approves 6,700 housing support requests
The council also reviewed housing support for Emirati citizens.
It commended the approval of all 6,700 housing support requests submitted to the Sharjah Department of Housing.
The move forms part of Sharjah’s wider support for Emirati families. It is also linked to efforts to strengthen social stability.
The decisions were taken during the SEC’s weekly meeting. H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Chairman of the SEC, chaired the meeting.
