The Ministry of Education and Higher Education in Qatar has introduced a professional development training plan aimed at strengthening employee skills and aligning learning opportunities with workplace needs.

The ministry’s Training and Development Center presented the plan during an introductory workshop at the ministry’s headquarters in Doha on September 3.

Held under the theme, “Explore Your Development Opportunities… and Be a Partner in Building Your Career Path,” the session focused on the training programmes and development pathways available to employees.

The programme encourages employees to take a more active role in identifying their professional development needs.

It also seeks to connect training with employees’ current responsibilities and longer-term career goals. In turn, the approach is designed to help staff select programmes that support both their roles and future development.

Latifa Dismal Al Kuwari, Head of the Administrative Training Section at the Training and Development Center, said the initiative reflects a broader shift in how the ministry views professional development.

“We aspire for employees to view training as an investment in their career path, rather than simply a training programme they attend.”

Al Kuwari said effective development starts when employees understand the skills they need to improve. They can then choose relevant opportunities and apply what they learn to their work.

Qatar ministry seeks stronger workforce capabilities

The Training and Development Center is providing employees with access to a range of development opportunities.

The centre also aims to help staff choose programmes that match their individual needs and career paths. According to Al Kuwari, this approach can support stronger institutional capabilities while contributing to the ministry’s priorities and future direction.

The initiative forms part of the centre’s wider efforts to promote continuous professional development across the ministry.

By encouraging employees to take greater ownership of their learning, the ministry aims to strengthen capabilities and improve workplace performance.

Employees receive guidance on training opportunities

Following the workshop, the Training and Development Center held an open meeting with ministry employees.

During the session, staff raised questions about available training and professional development programmes. The centre’s team addressed their queries and provided further guidance on the opportunities available.

The initiative places employee-led development at the centre of the ministry’s training approach, with a focus on linking skills development to job requirements, career progression and institutional priorities.
