The Perplexity AI computer launched on March 11 as a new AI system running on a dedicated Mac mini that operates continuously while connecting to local applications and cloud services. The platform allows users and organisations to automate tasks and manage workflows through AI agents.

Perplexity introduced the Perplexity AI computer as part of its broader Computer platform. The system functions as a digital proxy that can interact with files, applications and internet services. It operates continuously while linking a user’s device with Perplexity’s servers.

The company said the Perplexity AI computer can coordinate tools across devices and execute tasks online. It can also query databases, retrieve information and manage workflows through connected applications. Sensitive actions still require user approval. Meanwhile, the system generates audit trails and includes a kill switch to stop operations instantly.

AI reshaping labour market through autonomous AI agents

The Perplexity AI computer reflects a wider shift toward automation platforms where AI agents perform digital work across systems. This trend also connects with broader discussions about AI reshaping labour market roles as software increasingly handles repetitive and data-heavy tasks.

The enterprise version of the platform links directly with workplace software tools. Through app connectors, the system can access corporate platforms such as Snowflake, Salesforce and HubSpot. It can generate queries, run analyses and return structured data outputs.

Teams can also define workflows as custom AI skills. Employees interact with these workflows inside collaboration platforms such as Slack. The Perplexity AI integrates coding agents including Codex and Claude to generate dashboards, reports and models.

Expanded ecosystem around Perplexity AI computer platform

Perplexity also launched additional tools connected to the Perplexity AI computer ecosystem. One of them is Comet Enterprise, a managed AI browser that allows administrators to control how the AI assistant interacts with company data.

The browser includes monitoring features developed with cybersecurity company CrowdStrike. These features help prevent sensitive information from being entered into AI systems.

Perplexity also introduced four APIs for developers: Search, Agent, Embeddings and Sandbox. These tools allow developers to build applications using the same capabilities available in the Perplexity AI computer. The platform also connects with research databases such as Statista, CB Insights and PitchBook. In addition, the finance tools integrate market data from organisations including the US Securities and Exchange Commission, FactSet, S&P Global and the London Stock Exchange Group.

Users can generate dashboards, spreadsheets and financial applications from these datasets. According to Perplexity, the launch expands the Computer platform across personal workflows, enterprise systems, developer tools and financial research.
