Oman AI innovation gained international recognition after technology company Oman Lens won a bronze award at the United Nations-backed AI for Good initiative during the Global Dialogue on Artificial Intelligence Governance in Geneva. The achievement highlights Oman’s growing contribution to responsible AI and sustainable technology solutions.
Oman Lens AI Innovation Geneva wins global award
Oman Lens received the bronze award for its contribution to the ‘Eradicating Hunger’ challenge. The project applies artificial intelligence to analyse agricultural crops using satellite imagery and space-based data, helping improve crop monitoring and strengthen global food security.
At the same time, the AI for Good initiative was organised by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in cooperation with international research and development institutions specialising in artificial intelligence and space technologies.
The recognition places Oman AI innovation among international initiatives that promote practical AI applications for sustainable development.
Global Dialogue focuses on responsible AI
Oman concluded its participation in the Global Dialogue on Artificial Intelligence Governance, which brought together representatives from all 193 United Nations member states. The event also included global technology companies, civil society organisations, and academic and research institutions.
Participants discussed the future governance of artificial intelligence and explored approaches that encourage responsible, safe, and ethical AI adoption. The dialogue provided a platform for international cooperation on AI policy and governance.
The event also highlighted the importance of collaboration in shaping future AI frameworks while encouraging innovation across multiple sectors.
Oman reviews future AI cooperation
On the sidelines of the dialogue, H E Dr Ali bin Amer Al Shidhani, Undersecretary for Communications and Information Technology at the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, met Doreen Bogdan-Martin, Secretary-General of the ITU.
The meeting reviewed opportunities to expand cooperation in artificial intelligence. Officials also discussed Oman’s efforts to modernise legislation and update national policies to keep pace with advances in AI technologies.
These discussions support Oman AI innovation by strengthening international partnerships and promoting responsible AI governance.
AI supports sustainable development goals
During the dialogue, Oman reaffirmed its commitment to international efforts that promote responsible artificial intelligence governance and the safe and ethical use of AI. The Sultanate also expressed its readiness to work with the United Nations and international partners to maximise AI’s contribution to sustainable development.
The recognition of Oman Lens and the continued engagement in global AI discussions reflect Oman’s focus on developing technology that supports practical solutions across sectors.
