Ghadeer Hussain has been appointed Chairperson of the Volunteering and Social Initiatives Committee at the SPE University of Bahrain Student Chapter for Semester 1, 2026/2027. The appointment follows nearly three years of involvement with SPE’s volunteering committee.
Hussain will lead the committee and work with its team on initiatives for the university and wider community. She said she aims to turn the team’s ideas into initiatives that create meaningful impact within the university and community.
Ghadeer Hussain builds student leadership experience
Hussain is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering at the University of Bahrain, with her degree running from 2023 to 2027.
Her academic path has also included practical industry experience. From June to August 2026, she completed a three month Power Lab internship at Aluminium Bahrain, or Alba.
During the internship, she gained exposure to water and oil laboratory testing, reverse osmosis, sewage treatment processes and steam turbine systems. She also developed experience in industrial safety and sustainability.
Focus on volunteering and social initiatives
In her new role, Hussain said she looks forward to leading an inspiring team and developing ideas into initiatives for the university and community.
She also highlighted teamwork, creativity and positive contributions as priorities for the semester. The appointment builds on her previous involvement with SPE’s volunteering committee.
Her wider experience includes participation in Alba’s Summer Safety Campaign, where she received CEO Star recognition for her contribution. She also delivered a presentation within Alba’s ESG Department on carbon markets, blockchain and transparent climate action.
Ghadeer Hussain combines engineering and technology
Alongside her chemical engineering studies, Hussain has explored technology through the Fab Lab Bahrain Tech Stride programme. Her experience included machine learning, game design and robotics.
As part of the programme, she worked with a team to design and programme an octopus like robotic arm intended to clean aquatic environments and support marine life. The project connected robotics with environmental sustainability.
