Qatar Airways has elevated Kate Ling to Senior Vice President of People Operations, expanding her leadership responsibilities within the airline. Ling will bring experience across human resources, finance and Global Business Services to the role.
Ling announced her appointment on LinkedIn on 16 October 2026. She said she would return to her human resources roots with a broader commercial perspective gained through her work in finance and Global Business Services.
Kate Ling’s leadership experience at Qatar Airways
Ling joined Qatar Airways in 2020 as Senior Manager, Business Change. She later became Head of Shared Services for Europe, the Americas and Africa before taking on the role of Vice President, GBS Outstation Services.
She held the vice president position for more than three years. Her experience across these roles included exposure to shared services, operational accountability and financial decision-making.
Reflecting on her time in Global Business Services, Ling said the experience had strengthened her commercial acumen. It had also reinforced the importance of financial discipline, cost efficiency and data-led decision-making.
Ling added that clear accountability and strong governance could improve how an organisation operates. She also highlighted the value of focusing on operational outcomes.
People Operations and the HR leadership agenda
In her new role, Ling aims to apply these lessons to People Operations at Qatar Airways. Her stated priorities include simplifying HR processes, improving connections across the function and making services more responsive to employees.
She also intends to place greater emphasis on employee experience. Ling said her ambition was to help employees perform at their best by making People Operations simpler and more connected.
The appointment brings her experience in commercial and operational functions back into HR leadership. However, Qatar Airways has not disclosed further details about her mandate, reporting structure or planned changes to the people function.
Kate Ling’s international HR background
Before joining Qatar Airways, Ling spent more than 11 years at British Airways in human resources leadership roles. She also served as Head of International Human Resources, overseeing the international HR function across more than 70 countries.
Her responsibilities included international shared services, rewards and business partnering. She also managed teams supporting major change programmes.
This background combines international HR leadership with experience in shared services and business change. Ling’s career has therefore covered both people management and the operational functions that support a large organisation.
She holds a BA Honours degree in Economics and Politics from Newcastle University. She is also a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD).
What Ling said about her new role
Ling said her experience in Global Business Services had given her a broader perspective on how organisations operate. She now intends to bring that perspective to People Operations.
She also expressed enthusiasm about working with colleagues across HR and building relationships with her new team. Ling described the role as an opportunity to improve how the function supports employees.
Qatar Airways has not announced additional details about the transition. Ling’s stated focus remains on simplifying HR processes, strengthening responsiveness and improving the employee experience.
