IIT Madras Global Research Foundation will open its first Applied Artificial Intelligence Innovation Centre at Dubai CommerCity after signing an agreement in February 2026 in Dubai. The project aims to support applied AI development, startup expansion, and technology-driven economic growth.
Centre to host startups and scale AI solutions
The first phase will include six applied AI startups. Their combined valuation stands near $118 million. Projected revenue may reach $281 million within five years. Several firms show potential for global expansion.
MCA Gulf is facilitating the initiative in Dubai. The platform will help companies build, test, and deploy AI products across industries.
Link to India–UAE technology partnership
The agreement was signed during WORLDEF Dubai 2026, inaugurated by Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Officials said the centre supports the India–UAE technology corridor and aligns with bilateral economic cooperation goals.
Amna Lootah said the initiative strengthens Dubai’s role in digital trade and advanced technology. Leaders from IIT Madras added that the centre connects academic research with industrial deployment and responsible AI systems.
Expected economic and sector impact
The facility will promote product development and local intellectual property. It will also expand collaboration with government and industry partners. High-skill jobs and commercial activity may increase across smart cities, energy, logistics, and construction.
The centre will support market access and investment for deep-tech startups across the Gulf region. It will also reinforce Dubai’s position in digital trade and advanced technology.
