Tech Mahindra fresher hiring slowdown has left more than 1,000 engineering graduates from the 2025 batch waiting for onboarding in India. According to People Matters, “Tech Mahindra delays onboarding of 1,000+ freshers amid hiring slowdown” published on March 13, 2026, the Pune-based IT firm slowed hiring to manage margins and utilisation.

Tech Mahindra fresher hiring slowdown delays campus onboarding

The Tech Mahindra fresher hiring slowdown has delayed offer letters for many students selected during the 2025 campus recruitment cycle. Several graduates say the company completed interviews and announced selections last year. However, many candidates still wait for joining dates.

The recruitment process began in early 2025. Students completed aptitude tests in January. Technical and HR interviews followed in February at Tech Mahindra’s Pune office. The company released its final selection list in March.

Even after clearing every stage, several graduates say they have not received formal offer letters nearly a year later.

India IT hiring slowdown reshapes campus recruitment

The Tech Mahindra fresher hiring slowdown reflects a wider India IT hiring slowdown across outsourcing companies. Technology firms have reduced campus hiring as global demand for IT services weakens.

Companies now adjust hiring plans more frequently. Many firms link fresher recruitment directly to active project demand rather than long-term workforce expansion.

For example, Wipro postponed onboarding for about 250 freshers for several months. Tata Consultancy Services also delayed joining for lateral hires in 2025. Earlier, Infosys faced scrutiny after postponing onboarding for nearly 2,000 graduates.

Impact on fresh engineering graduates still waiting for joining letters

The Tech Mahindra fresher hiring slowdown has created uncertainty for entry-level engineers. Several selected candidates expected to start work in 2025. However, many remain without joining letters.

Employee advocacy groups have raised concerns about the delays. Prashant Pandit, secretary of the Pune-based Forum for Information Technology Employees (FITE), said more than 1,000 candidates are still waiting.

“If more affected candidates come forward, we will raise the issue with the labour ministry,” Pandit said.

Tech Mahindra fresher hiring slowdown tied to strategy shift

The Tech Mahindra hiring slowdown also aligns with the company’s operational strategy under CEO Mohit Joshi. The firm aims to improve margins and increase workforce utilisation through FY27.

During a recent earnings call, Joshi said the company plans to hire fewer fresh graduates in FY26 compared with roughly 6,000 recruits the previous year. The company also focuses on redeploying employees released from fixed-price projects.

A company spokesperson said Tech Mahindra will continue issuing offer letters in phases based on business demand.
