The facility will cover nearly 600 acres across Tarluwada, Adavivaram and Rambilli. It will operate as a hyperscale setup with 1 gigawatt capacity. The project ranks among the largest data infrastructure investments globally and reflects rising demand for AI computing power.

At the same time, the site will connect through subsea cables. These links will enable direct data exchange with international markets. As a result, Visakhapatnam will strengthen its position in global data networks and digital trade routes.

What changed in Andhra Pradesh’s tech strategy

The state government aligned the Google AI data centre with its investment strategy. Officials are promoting large infrastructure projects under the Speed of Doing Business policy. This approach focuses on faster approvals, reduced delays, and industrial expansion.

Meanwhile, N Chandrababu Naidu said the project will shift the city’s identity. He stated that Visakhapatnam will emerge as a global data hub instead of only a port city. The announcement highlights a shift toward digital infrastructure-led growth.

How the Google AI data centre operates

The project will create roles across AI, cloud operations, cybersecurity and data science. It will also support infrastructure management jobs. Therefore, it will expand employment in technology sectors and related service industries.

Partners such as AdaniConneX and Airtel Nxtra are part of the ecosystem. Their involvement will support operations and connectivity.

In addition, the state plans a wider 6.5 GW digital infrastructure network. Authorities are also preparing green energy supply for upcoming data centres to ensure sustainable operations.

How the Google AI data centre infrastructure works

Visakhapatnam’s coastal location supports submarine cable landing stations. This feature allows faster global data transfer. Consequently, the Google data centre will act as a gateway for international digital traffic and cloud services.

The development aligns with rising demand for AI computing and cloud services. India continues to expand its data infrastructure to support advanced technologies and enterprise-scale digital operations.
