According to Times of Oman, “AmCham Oman launches Technology and AI Committee”, published on May 2026, the new AmCham Oman AI Committee brings together technology companies, startups, SMEs, and private-sector stakeholders to support Oman’s digital economy initiatives. The committee will also focus on innovation, artificial intelligence, and workforce readiness programs across the Sultanate.
AmCham Oman launches technology and AI committee
The AmCham Oman AI Committee was established after discussions with the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology. The committee aims to strengthen cooperation between Oman and the United States in technology development, innovation, and digital transformation initiatives.
Officials said the committee will focus on two priorities. These include expanding technology employment opportunities for Omanis and improving international exposure for local startups, SMEs, and emerging technology talent. Industry representatives from private companies, technology firms, and ecosystem organisations also joined the initiative to support collaboration and innovation programs.
Workforce development and technology skills take priority
Rebecca Olson, CEO of AmCham Oman, said Oman’s digital transformation creates opportunities for stronger cooperation between government entities, startups, and global technology companies. She noted that the committee plans to support practical initiatives linked to the wider technology ecosystem.
The AmCham Oman AI Committee will support programs related to digital readiness, AI awareness, workforce training, and employer engagement. It will also contribute to ecosystem research, workforce trend analysis, startup visibility programs, and reporting connected to Oman’s technology sector. The committee plans to encourage stronger engagement between educational institutions and private-sector employers.
Oman technology sector gains private – sector support
Sheikh Saif Al Hosni, General Manager of Microsoft Oman & Bahrain, chairs the committee. He said Oman continues to build a technology ecosystem supported by digital growth and innovation-focused leadership. He also highlighted the role of collaboration between government entities and technology companies in supporting long-term digital economy goals.
Amr Nabil of Dell Technologies, who serves as co-chair, said the initiative can help create pathways for entrepreneurship, technology talent, and ecosystem collaboration. He added that stronger cooperation between companies and institutions can support Oman’s position within the regional digital economy and improve opportunities for local startups and SMEs.
