Prime Minister Narendra Modi met founders from Indian AI startups under the IndiaAI Mission on Thursday in Delhi to discuss artificial intelligence deployment, ethical use, and global positioning ahead of the AI Impact Summit scheduled next month.
IndiaAI Mission and startup engagement
The IndiaAI Mission convened a closed-door interaction with 12 AI startups selected for the AI for All: Global Impact Challenge. The meeting took place at the Prime Minister’s residence. Founders presented use cases across healthcare, engineering, defence, and commerce.
Several participating companies are developing large language models. At least two firms plan public launches during the upcoming summit. The startups operate in areas such as medical research, material science, marketing technology, and enterprise AI systems.
According to participants, the discussion focused on execution rather than experimentation. The Prime Minister stressed deployable systems that can function at population scale.
Narendra Modi AI speech focused on usability
During the roundtable, Narendra Modi said AI systems must show measurable benefits for citizens. He urged founders to prioritise tools that improve access, efficiency, and service delivery.
Startup leaders said the Prime Minister raised concerns around bias, transparency, and data privacy. He encouraged the creation of Indian AI models that support regional languages and local datasets.
The phrase “Made in India, Made for the World” framed the discussion. Founders were asked to present globally competitive systems built on domestic innovation.
How startups are building under IndiaAI Mission
Executives outlined phased development strategies. One startup described a math-and-code model followed by defence-focused applications. Others shared progress in multilingual interfaces and sector-specific AI tools.
Companies including Avataar, BharatGen, Fractal, Sarvam, and Soket AI participated. Tech Mahindra also joined the discussion. Their work spans both public and enterprise use cases.
Several founders said India now offers stable infrastructure, policy clarity, and talent depth for AI development.
Summit outlook
The IndiaAI Mission will serve as a central coordination platform at the India AI Impact Summit. Government officials, startup founders, researchers, and industry leaders are scheduled to participate in closed-door and public sessions.
Startups expect structured engagement with policymakers on regulation, data access, and deployment frameworks. Several companies are preparing technical briefings and use-case presentations for public sector and enterprise audiences.
The summit agenda includes product demonstrations, early-stage model showcases, and sector-specific applications. Large language models, regional language tools, and domain-focused AI systems are expected to feature prominently.
