The Oman Research Skills Forum will begin next Sunday in Muscat with the participation of 100 postgraduate researchers from higher education institutions across the Sultanate. Organised by the Scientific Research and Innovation Commission in partnership with the Arab Open University, the programme will run until 20 August and focus on advanced statistical analysis, research skills and emerging technologies.

Oman Research Forum 2026 strengthens research

The Oman Research Skills Forum 2026 marks the fifth edition of the annual programme and carries the theme “Advanced Analysis of Statistical Data.” The forum aims to strengthen researchers’ ability to apply modern statistical methods in scientific studies while improving the quality ofF research outputs and increasing opportunities for publication in refereed scientific journals.

The organisers received 210 applications for this edition and selected 100 postgraduate researchers after completing the admission and screening process. They divided the participants into two groups of 50 to provide greater practical engagement and hands-on learning throughout the programme.

Training focuses on SPSS and Artificial Intelligence

The forum delivers an intensive programme that combines theoretical knowledge with practical application. Participants will study the principles of applied statistics, receive hands-on training in SPSS software and learn how to import and analyse data collected through electronic questionnaires.

The programme also explores the growing role of AI in advanced statistical analysis. These sessions help researchers strengthen analytical capabilities, improve research quality and apply modern technologies to scientific studies.

Oman Research Forum supports Oman vision 2040

The Scientific Research and Innovation Commission and the Arab Open University organised the forum through their strategic partnership to strengthen national research capabilities. The initiative supports Oman Vision 2040, which identifies education, scientific research and innovation as national priorities.

The forum also encourages collaboration between postgraduate students, faculty members and higher education institutions. Participants will exchange research experiences, strengthen critical thinking, improve scientific communication and build professional networks that support future academic collaboration.

Forum builds on previous research training

Moreover, the latest edition builds on the previous four forums, which covered the fundamentals of scientific research alongside quantitative, qualitative and mixed research methods. This year, however, the programme focuses on advanced statistical data analysis.

As a result, participants will develop specialised research skills while strengthening their analytical capabilities. In addition, the training will help researchers improve the quality of their scientific work and apply advanced statistical methods across different academic disciplines. Ultimately, the forum aims to support stronger research outcomes and practical application.
