Jacob Oommen has been appointed Group National Patient Safety Lead for the Sultanate of Oman by GCC Healthcare Leaders. Oommen will support patient safety engagement across Oman while continuing his role as Group Chief Operating Officer at Badr Al Samaa Group of Hospitals.

Jacob Oommen brings healthcare leadership experience

Following his appointment as Group National Patient Safety Lead for the Sultanate of Oman, Oommen brings extensive experience in hospital and healthcare management, with expertise in operations, budgeting and customer service. He is based in Muscat and currently serves as Group COO at Badr Al Samaa Group of Hospitals.

He joined Badr Al Samaa in May 2016 as Administrator and Hospital Manager and became COO in October 2020.
His previous experience includes serving as Director of Patient Services at International Hospital of Bahrain from February 2010 to May 2016

Focus on patient safety across Oman

The new appointment places Oommen in a regional role focused on patient safety participation in Oman. The announcement also calls on doctors, nurses, quality professionals and healthcare administrators across the Sultanate to share practical patient safety cases.

The initiative seeks examples of recurring safety challenges and emerging issues addressed through practical interventions. The selected case studies will feature at the Quarterly Patient Safety Smart Conclave on 21 November 2026.

Healthcare professionals should submit summaries of their challenge, implementation approach and measurable safety outcome by 31 October 2026.

Badr Al Samaa leadership background

Oommen heads Badr Al Samaa Group of Hospitals, which operates seven super speciality hospitals and seven medical centres across Oman.His profile lists international accreditations including Joint Commission International, Australian Council on Healthcare Standards International and the Patient Safety Friendly Hospital Initiative of WHO.

His professional background also includes senior roles in finance, administration, hospitality and healthcare. Earlier positions include Chief Executive Officer at Sree Bhadra Parks and Resorts, Group Manager at Santosh Group of Companies and Audit Manager at Thomas Jacob and Company.

Oommen holds a Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Laws from the University of Kerala. He also holds MBAs in hospital and healthcare administration and finance, along with an ISQua Fellowship.
