Merit Academy Oman has appointed Jamal Al Tamimi as Chief International Business Development & Growth Officer, adding an education sector executive with more than 20 years of experience in the UK and Middle East to its senior leadership team. The appointment sees Al Tamimi join Merit Academy, part of Merit Group, to support international business development, partnerships and expansion across the Middle East and beyond.

Al Tamimi joins the organisation after serving as MENA Regional Higher Education Relationship & Business Development Manager at the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), where he worked with universities, training providers and enterprise learning and development divisions across the region. His appointment aligns with Merit Academy’s plans to strengthen its partnerships and continue expanding its education offerings.

Merit Academy Oman strengthens regional growth leadership

In his new position, Al Tamimi will lead Merit Academy’s international business development and growth strategy while supporting the organisation’s expansion into new markets. According to the announcement, he will focus on building strategic partnerships that advance Merit Group’s education mission across the Middle East and other regions.

The company said his appointment reinforces Merit Academy’s position as the first provider of Arabic medium CMI executive qualifications and the first CMI Level 8 provider in the MENA region. His role will also support collaboration with education and training organisations as the academy continues to expand its regional presence.

Jamal Al Tamimi brings two decades of education experience

Al Tamimi brings more than 20 years of experience across the education and training sector in the United Kingdom. His career has connected education institutions and professional learning organisations between the UK and the Middle East.

Before joining Merit Academy, he worked at the Chartered Management Institute, strengthening higher education partnerships and accreditation across the MENA region. Earlier, he founded Nexus Learn Arabic, an e learning platform dedicated to teaching Arabic to non native speakers, and also held leadership roles at HERE, EF Education First and Study Group.

Academic qualifications support Merit Academy Oman appointment

Al Tamimi holds a Master’s degree in Business Consultancy and Analysis from the University of Hertfordshire. He also completed an Executive Education Programme at Cambridge Judge Business School and earned a postgraduate marketing qualification from the Chartered Institute of Marketing. In addition, he holds Chartered Fellow Manager status (FCMI CMgr), reflecting his professional standing in management and leadership.

His appointment adds an experienced education and business development leader to Merit Academy’s executive team as the organisation continues expanding its partnerships and regional education initiatives. The announcement highlights the company’s focus on strengthening its presence across the Middle East while supporting long term growth through international collaboration.
