The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) has partnered with Qatar Youth Hostels to help young people build digital solutions for the tourism sector.

The three-day camp brought together 14 participants aged 15 to 18. It focused on artificial intelligence (AI), coding and user experience design.

Youth develop AI solutions for tourism

MCIT delivered the training through its Studio 5 initiative. The programme formed part of Qatar Youth Hostels’ Knowledge Programme.

Participants received six hours of hands-on training during the camp. They learned how to use technology to address challenges faced by tourists.

The sessions covered AI, coding, user interface (UI) design and user experience (UX) principles. Participants then used these skills to create prototypes for tourism-related mobile applications.

AI chatbot helps tourists in Qatar

One of the prototypes was “Travel AI Chat”, an AI-powered tourism chatbot.

The tool is designed to provide visitors with quick answers to their questions. It can also direct tourists to relevant tourism and public service entities.

As a result, the solution aims to make it easier for visitors to find information and access services.

Other prototypes focused on practical tourism challenges. These included cultural and language barriers, accessibility and emergency support.

Participants also explored ways to help tourists discover lesser-known destinations in Qatar.

Digital skills linked to tourism growth

The camp combined classroom learning with practical application. Participants presented their prototypes at the end of the programme.

The presentations allowed the young developers to test the user experience of their solutions. They also assessed how well the applications addressed the challenges identified during the camp.

For MCIT, the programme forms part of wider efforts to strengthen young people’s digital skills. The ministry also aims to encourage responsible and creative use of AI.

The initiative comes as digital tools become increasingly important across tourism and other service industries. In particular, AI can help organisations improve access to information and create more personalised experiences.

Qatar targets future-ready digital talent

MCIT said the programme aims to help young people turn ideas into scalable digital prototypes.

The ministry also linked the initiative to Qatar’s Digital Agenda 2030. The agenda seeks to support the country’s digital economy and strengthen digital capabilities.

By giving young participants practical experience, programmes such as this can help build skills for future technology-driven roles.
