Most occupations are projected to face changes as AI tools spread across workplaces over the next decade, according to a new Cognizant–Oxford Economics report. The study noted that 90% of jobs could see some level of disruption, and over half could undergo major shifts. The findings were issued as organisations accelerate AI adoption and workers seek clarity on future roles. This early AI shift is already influencing expectations as companies reconsider how work will evolve.

Companies have begun integrating AI into routine workflows, altering how teams execute tasks. The report stated that roles once dependent on repetition now rely increasingly on automation. It also said Gen AI will start supporting duties that previously depended on human intuition within five years.
Impact on employees and companies
Experts reported that employees now spend less time on manual actions, such as formatting documents or processing large data sets. Workers instead move toward creative problem-solving and decision-focused work. Organisations, according to the study, may expand productivity but cannot rule out job restructuring as teams shift to higher-value tasks.

Grassik Search Director Sahil Thakur said AI is already embedded in daily operations and urged workers to update technical skills. He added that new AI-driven roles will emerge for those trained to use advanced tools.
SAIGroup MD Kalyan Kolachala compared the moment to the dot-com era and said companies and governments must expand reskilling efforts. He noted that India could become a global AI talent hub by 2035 if investments in training begin now.
Cognizant announced a goal to upskill 2 million people by 2030 and confirmed that 163,000 India-based associates completed Gen AI fundamentals by October 2025.
