Badr Aljohani has been appointed Chief Sustainability & CSR Officer at alinma in Saudi Arabia. He announced the appointment on LinkedIn, stating that he had started the new role with a “wider scope and bigger challenge.”

The appointment follows nearly three years with the Saudi bank, during which Aljohani held successive leadership positions in sustainability. His progression reflects alinma’s continued investment in strengthening sustainability and corporate responsibility leadership within its executive team.

Badr Aljohani expands sustainability leadership at alinma

Aljohani most recently served as General Manager of Sustainability before assuming his new position in June 2026. Before that, he led the bank’s sustainability function as Head of Sustainability Department after joining alinma in August 2023.

According to his LinkedIn profile, he said: “I’m pleased to share that I have started a new role as Chief Sustainability & CSR Officer at alinma. Wider scope and bigger challenge.”

Track record in sustainability transformation

During his tenure as General Manager of Sustainability, Aljohani said the bank improved its MSCI ESG rating from BBB to A and then to AA. He also said the organisation developed a five year sustainability strategy during that period.

Earlier, as Head of Sustainability Department, Aljohani led the execution of the bank’s sustainability strategy across six pillars. These included sustainable finance, environmental stewardship, customer empowerment, workplace development, community support, and governance. He also said he established the sustainability department, recruited its team, developed management systems, and introduced both short and long term objectives.

Experience across banking, industry and manufacturing

Before joining alinma, Aljohani served as Senior Projects Expert for Sustainability at the Saudi Industrial Development Fund. In that role, he supported clients on sustainability strategy, developed sustainability training programmes, and provided consultancy and mentoring for industrial organisations.

Earlier roles included Sustainability Manager at Sadara Chemical Company, where he led the development of the company’s sustainability management framework and five year sustainability strategy. His career also includes leadership positions at Maaden, SABIC Ibn Sina, Saudi Electricity Company, and Danish Paint Company.

Sustainability expertise and professional background

Aljohani describes himself as a corporate sustainability specialist with more than 25 years of experience across the utilities, petrochemicals, mining, and banking sectors. His profile states that his work over the past decade has focused on sustainability transformation, net zero strategies, sustainable finance, circular economy initiatives, energy efficiency, and carbon footprint management.

His LinkedIn profile also states that he is the founder of the Saudi Sustainability Club, chairman of the Corporate Sustainability Association, and serves on several technical committees and social organisations. In addition, he has delivered more than 35 training programmes and spoken at over 50 local and international events.

With his appointment as Chief Sustainability & CSR Officer, Aljohani now leads alinma’s sustainability and corporate social responsibility agenda following a series of internal leadership promotions.
