OQT, Oman’s global commodity trader, has appointed Emmanuël Brasseur as Head of LNG in Dubai.

Brasseur will lead OQT’s LNG business across the Middle East, Asia Pacific, Europe and the Atlantic Basin. His role covers trading, portfolio development, optimisation, and new supply and offtake relationships.

Emmanuël Brasseur joins OQT from CCI

Brasseur joins OQT from Castleton Commodities International. There, he served as Executive Director, Global LNG Physical.

He brings more than 20 years of experience in LNG trading, origination and portfolio management. His work has covered the Atlantic, Middle East and Asian markets.

Earlier in his career, Brasseur held senior roles at JERA Global Markets, Diamond Gas International and Mitsubishi, Eni Trading, and Suez Group and Distrigas.

At JERA Global Markets, he led the optimisation of an LNG portfolio in the Atlantic Basin. The portfolio had capacity of more than 30 MTPA.

As a result, Brasseur brings experience across several major LNG markets. His background also covers trading, portfolio management and supply origination.

Brasseur takes charge of OQT’s LNG business

At OQT, Brasseur will manage LNG activities across four regions. These are the Middle East, Asia Pacific, Europe and the Atlantic Basin.

His responsibilities include portfolio development, trading and optimisation. In addition, he will work on new supply and offtake relationships.

OQT said the appointment supports its plans to expand its LNG portfolio. The company also wants to build deeper expertise in LNG origination.

LNG is a key part of OQT’s commodity strategy. Alongside LNG, the company trades crude oil, refined products, petrochemicals and fertilisers.

OQT expects new liquefaction capacity to come online around the world through 2030. The company sees an opportunity to grow its LNG business as new supply enters the market.

Its areas of focus include supply origination and freight optimisation. It also plans to build longer term offtake relationships in Asia, Europe and emerging import markets.

OQT expands its global trading team

OQT is the trading arm of OQ, Oman’s integrated national energy company. It is also part of the wider Oman Investment Authority group.

The company is wholly government owned and operates internationally. It also runs its business on a commercial basis.

Over the past two decades, OQT has built a multi commodity trading platform. Its trading portfolio includes crude oil, refined products, petrochemicals, LNG, fertilisers and carbon related products.

OQT has offices in Dubai, Muscat, London, Rotterdam, Singapore, Houston and Shanghai.

The company said LNG is a key part of its growth strategy for the decade ahead. It is also working to build its trading teams and strengthen relationships across global energy markets.

OQT CEO outlines Brasseur’s role

Wail Al Jamali, Chief Executive Officer of OQT, said Brasseur brings commercial, portfolio and origination experience across major LNG markets.

According to Al Jamali, Brasseur will help develop OQT’s LNG portfolio and global partnerships. He will also help build the capabilities needed for OQT’s global trading ambitions.

Brasseur said OQT combines an asset backed foundation with a trading mindset. He added that his focus will be on developing the portfolio and strengthening relationships with counterparties.

He will also work on the next stage of OQT’s LNG platform.

The appointment places Brasseur in charge of OQT’s LNG business from Dubai. His remit covers the Middle East, Asia Pacific, Europe and the Atlantic Basin.
