Anas Al-Shuwayer has been appointed General Manager and Managing Director of ispace S A, the Saudi Arabia entity of ispace, inc. The appointment took effect on 1 November 2026, as the Japanese lunar exploration company develops its operations in the Kingdom.

Al-Shuwayer will oversee business development, operational growth and strategic initiatives in Saudi Arabia. His mandate includes connecting ispace’s global lunar exploration capabilities with the Kingdom’s developing space sector.

Anas Al-Shuwayer brings Saudi market leadership experience

Al-Shuwayer brings more than 20 years of leadership experience across energy, industrial services, critical infrastructure and government. His professional background spans business development, organisational leadership and international operations.

Before joining ispace, Al-Shuwayer served as Director of Defence, Critical Infrastructure and Energy at Serco in Saudi Arabia. In that role, he led strategic engagements with government and industry stakeholders.

He previously held leadership positions at SANKYU Saudi Arabia, Weatherford and Expro. He also served as General Manager of an oil and gas services company, overseeing business establishment, market expansion and operations.

Throughout his career, Al-Shuwayer has supported organisational growth, capability development and localisation initiatives. These efforts aligned with Saudi Arabia’s national development priorities, according to ispace.

ispace Saudi Arabia leadership mandate

Al-Shuwayer’s appointment places an experienced Saudi market leader at the head of ispace’s local operations. The company expects him to establish an operational foundation and identify business opportunities in the Kingdom.

He will work with ispace’s global teams and local stakeholders. His responsibilities also include advancing strategic initiatives and exploring opportunities for business and technology development in Saudi Arabia.

The appointment follows ispace’s January 2026 announcement that it had initiated its Saudi Arabia entity, ispace S A. The company is expanding its international presence alongside existing operations in Japan, Luxembourg and the United States.

The Saudi expansion reflects ispace’s stated commitment to international collaboration and new business opportunities. It also supports the company’s aim to contribute to the Kingdom’s efforts to strengthen domestic space capabilities under Vision 2030.

ispace’s global lunar exploration business

ispace, inc. is a global lunar resource development company. It designs and builds lunar landers, rovers, orbital transfer vehicles and relay satellites.

The company aims to extend human activity into space and support a sustainable world. Its business model centres on providing high-frequency, low-cost lunar transportation and related services.

According to the company, ispace has more than 300 employees worldwide. Its business entities operate in Japan, Luxembourg, the United States and Saudi Arabia.

Leadership perspectives on the Saudi expansion

ispace Founder and Chief Executive Officer Takeshi Hakamada said Saudi Arabia forms an important part of the company’s global growth strategy.

Hakamada said establishing a strong operational presence in the Kingdom was a priority. He cited Al-Shuwayer’s leadership experience, local market knowledge and international business perspective as relevant to the company’s next stage of development.

Al-Shuwayer said Saudi Arabia’s ambitions and growing space sector provide a foundation for ispace’s future in the Kingdom. He said he aims to expand the company’s presence and build a sustainable operation.

The new managing director added that he would draw on his experience and the expertise of ispace’s global teams. He also expressed an aim to contribute to Saudi Arabia’s development in space over the long term.

The appointment places local leadership at the centre of ispace’s Saudi expansion, with responsibility for building operations and developing opportunities across the Kingdom’s space sector.
