Mohammed Al-Barwani Satellites (MBSAT) LLC has appointed Ammar Al Rawahi as General Manager. The appointment places Al Rawahi at the helm of the company’s satellite communications business as it develops the first private Micro GEO satellite communications project in Oman and the wider region.

According to the company announcement, MBSAT is building next generation satellite communications infrastructure in partnership with Astranis Space Technologies to deliver secure and resilient connectivity while supporting the regional space economy.

Ammar Al Rawahi’s leadership experience in the space sector

Before becoming General Manager, Al Rawahi served as Space Advisor at Mohammed Al Barwani LLC, where he led the MB Sat project, supported the establishment of MBSAT as a subsidiary of MB Group, carried out space technical, commercial and investment assessments, and managed strategic partnerships across the space and telecommunications ecosystem.

Earlier, he was Chief Commercial Officer at SatMENA, leading commercial strategy, business development, market expansion and stakeholder engagement across the Middle East and Africa. His experience also includes serving as a Space Projects Consultant with Oman’s Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology and Director of Space Technologies at ETCO, where he worked on national space initiatives and satellite technology projects.

Role at Mohammed Al-Barwani satellites

As General Manager, Al Rawahi will lead Mohammed Al-Barwani Satellites (MBSAT) LLC. The company is developing the first private Micro GEO satellite communications project in Oman, representing one of the region’s largest private investments in the space industry.

The company said the project aims to build sovereign satellite communications infrastructure while delivering secure and resilient connectivity across Oman and the region.

Professional and academic background

Al Rawahi holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Wolverhampton and completed the New Space Economy programme at MIT Professional Education. He also studied Civil Engineering at the Higher College of Technology.

His professional background spans strategic leadership, digital transformation, satellite communications and space technology. Throughout his career, he has worked across the public, private and civil society sectors while contributing to the development of Oman’s space ecosystem.

Mohammed Al-Barwani Satellites has appointed Al Rawahi as General Manager as the company continues developing its satellite communications business in Oman.
