Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, Minister of State for Energy Affairs, chaired the meeting, which reviewed progress in Qatarization across the energy sector. The discussions focused on workforce development, business continuity and the need to prepare Qatari nationals for key positions.

Al-Kaabi also presented the annual Qatarization awards. The awards recognised companies for their contributions to education, national workforce development and learning initiatives.

Qatarization strategy focuses on critical and leadership roles

Al-Kaabi stressed that Qatarization remains a strategic priority for the energy sector. He linked workforce development to Qatar National Vision 2030, particularly its human development pillar.

He also called on companies to continue building the skills of Qatari employees. This, he said, would help strengthen organisational resilience and support operational continuity during periods of uncertainty.

The minister thanked energy companies for adapting to changing circumstances while maintaining their focus on employee safety.

He said: “We remain committed to our strategic objectives across the Energy Sector in support of the Human Development pillar as set out by the Qatar National Vision 2030.”

Al-Kaabi calls for ‘quality Qatarization beyond numbers’

The minister emphasised that Qatarization should go beyond meeting workforce targets. Instead, companies should focus on attracting, retaining and developing talented Qatari nationals.

He said: “I would like to reiterate my calls for ‘quality Qatarization beyond numbers’ through focused efforts to attract and retain a talented national workforce.”

Al-Kaabi added that effective development programmes could help Qatari employees build meaningful careers. They could also help companies prepare national talent to fill critical and leadership positions.

For employers, this approach places greater emphasis on career development and succession planning. It also highlights the need to connect national workforce targets with the skills required for senior and specialised roles.

Nakilat, Qatar Shell and QatarEnergy LNG receive Qatarization awards

Al-Kaabi presented the annual Qatarization Crystal Awards to companies recognised for their achievements in four categories.

The recipients were:

  • Qatar Gas Transport Company (Nakilat): Support and Liaison with the Education Sector.
  • Qatar Shell: Supporting Qatarization.
  • North Oil Company: Support for Learning and Development.
  • QatarEnergy LNG: Best Qatarization Progress.

The awards recognise different contributions to the development of Qatar’s national workforce. These include engagement with educational institutions, support for Qatarization and investment in employee learning.

Kahramaa, Oryx GTL and QAFAC receive improvement certificates

The minister also presented the annual Qatarization Certificates. These recognise companies that recorded the most significant improvements against the previous calendar year in three categories.

The recipients were:

  • Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (Kahramaa): Support and Liaison with the Education Sector.
  • Oryx GTL: Supporting Qatarization.
  • Qatar Fuel Additives Company Limited (QAFAC): Support for Learning and Development.

The awards and certificates recognise company-level efforts to advance Qatarization. The meeting also reinforced the sector’s stated commitment to developing national talent for key operational and leadership positions.

As Qatar’s energy companies continue to build their national workforce, the emphasis on skills development and career progression remains central to the sector’s Qatarization strategy.
