India’s SaaS talent demand eased during the first half of FY2026, according to a Careernet report released in December 2025. The study tracks hiring trends across leading SaaS firms in India and highlights a shift toward skills-focused, outcome-led workforce planning.

What changed in India’s SaaS talent demand

Open positions fell by 4% between April and September 2025, driven mainly by a 30% hiring decline among smaller SaaS companies.

At the same time, mid-sized companies showed moderate demand. Large and mega SaaS firms kept hiring levels stable, reflecting cautious workforce planning rather than rapid expansion.

Context behind the hiring shift

The findings come from Careernet’s India’s SaaS Talent Ecosystem H1 FY2026 report. The study analyzed active hiring across 100 Series A+ funded SaaS companies, including unicorns, with operations in India.

Mid-sized SaaS companies, employing between 201 and 1,800 people, now account for 58% of firms studied. Meanwhile, half of the companies operate across multiple locations, signaling broader geographic reach and operational maturity.

Impact on roles and talent strategy

India’s SaaS talent demand remains strongest in core technology functions. Software engineering and development roles make up 38% of open positions, underlining continued focus on product platforms, cloud infrastructure, and scalable systems.

Sales and business development roles account for 13% of openings. Customer success and support roles represent 8%, showing sustained emphasis on revenue, retention, and monetisation. Overall, companies are prioritising productivity and high-impact roles over headcount growth.

Geographic and market signals

Chennai accounts for 34% of the workforce, followed by Bengaluru with 21% and Delhi NCR with 20%. Bengaluru, however, has the largest share of offices at 27%, pointing to smaller or more distributed teams.

Careernet’s Chief Business Officer, Neelabh Shukla, said India’s digital talent pool continues to support global SaaS demand as software exports exceed $200 billion. He noted that disciplined hiring strengthens long-term capability while reinforcing India’s role in the global SaaS ecosystem.
