Oman based integrated energy company OQ8 has promoted Iman Al-Lawati to Head of Legal and Board Secretary, recognising her legal expertise and steady progression through senior legal roles within the organisation.
The appointment marks the latest step in Al-Lawati’s career at Oman-based OQ8, where she most recently served as Senior Legal Counsel. Before that, she held the position of Legal Counsel, building extensive experience across the company’s legal function. In her new role, she joins OQ8’s senior leadership team and will oversee the company’s legal affairs while also serving as Board Secretary.
Iman Al-Lawati advances within OQ8
Al-Lawati brings more than 14 years of in-house legal experience in the energy sector. Throughout her career, she has advised on complex legal matters while supporting corporate governance and strategic business decisions.
According to her professional profile, her expertise includes managing high-value commercial contracts, handling project finance matters and EPC disputes, and advising on governance frameworks. She has also worked closely with executive leadership and boards to provide practical legal guidance that supports business objectives while maintaining regulatory compliance and managing legal risk.
Her promotion reflects a clear internal career progression at OQ8. Since joining the company in 2023, she has advanced from Legal Counsel to Senior Legal Counsel before taking on the leadership position of Head of Legal and Board Secretary.
Extensive legal experience across the energy sector
Before joining OQ8, Al-Lawati held legal roles at Daleel Petroleum LLC, where she served as both Legal Counsel and Senior Legal Counsel. Earlier in her career, she worked as a Lawyer at Omantel and as Legal Counsel at Batelco, gaining experience across the telecommunications and energy sectors.
Her broad legal background has equipped her with expertise in commercial transactions, dispute resolution, corporate governance and regulatory matters. Over the years, she has developed a strong understanding of balancing legal requirements with operational and commercial priorities.
Al-Lawati holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University of Leeds.
In her new position, she will lead OQ8’s legal function while carrying out the responsibilities of Board Secretary. The role places her at the centre of the company’s legal and governance framework, supporting executive management and the board on legal, regulatory and corporate governance matters.
