Visa has appointed Mario Makary as Vice President and Country Manager for the United Arab Emirates. Based in Dubai, Makary will lead Visa’s business in the UAE.
Makary will oversee market strategy and business development in the UAE. He will also manage Visa’s relationships with clients, partners, regulators and other stakeholders.
Mario Makary brings 12 years of Visa experience
Makary brings more than 12 years of experience with Visa across Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq and the wider Levant. His experience also includes earlier roles in the banking and payments industries.
Before taking the UAE role, Makary served as Vice President for the Levant. In that position, he led Visa’s business and client engagement across the subregion.
His appointment also reflects Visa’s focus on developing internal leadership talent. Fadi Moukaddem, Group Country Manager for the UAE, Kuwait and Qatar at Visa, said Makary brings deep industry knowledge and an established track record within Visa.
Visa UAE role focuses on payments growth
In his new role, Makary will work with Visa’s clients and partners across the UAE. His responsibilities include deepening strategic client relationships and expanding digital payment acceptance.
Makary will also support new ways to pay and be paid. In addition, he will work to help businesses, consumers and communities access Visa’s network, products, solutions and advisory capabilities.
The role places Makary at the centre of Visa’s engagement with the UAE payments ecosystem. Visa said the company continues to support secure digital payments, money movement solutions, expanded acceptance and value added services in the country.
Visa also works with clients, partners and other ecosystem stakeholders across the UAE. The company said these efforts support secure and seamless commerce experiences for consumers and businesses.
Visa continues UAE digital payments focus
Moukaddem said Makary’s appointment reflects the strength of Visa’s internal talent pipeline. He added that Makary will work with clients and partners as they pursue growth and innovation in the UAE.
Makary said he would focus on working with Visa’s team, clients and partners. He also highlighted the continued development of the UAE payments ecosystem and wider access to secure and seamless payment options.
