HSBC has appointed Hani El Khoury as Managing Director – Head of UAE Sovereign Wealth Funds, marking a significant leadership elevation for the seasoned investment banker within the global banking group.
El Khoury announced the development as he assumes responsibility for leading HSBC’s strategic coverage of UAE sovereign wealth funds, government-related entities, and large institutional investors. The appointment reflects HSBC’s continued focus on deepening relationships with some of the world’s most influential state-backed investment institutions.
With nearly two decades of experience in corporate and investment banking, El Khoury brings extensive expertise in mergers and acquisitions, capital markets, and treasury transactions, areas that are central to sovereign investment strategies across the Gulf region.
Nearly Two Decades of Investment Banking Expertise
El Khoury has spent more than 12 years at HSBC, steadily rising through the ranks in the bank’s global banking and markets division. Prior to his new role, he served as Head of UAE Sovereign Wealth Funds, where he managed coverage for several of the region’s most prominent institutional investors.
Earlier in his HSBC tenure, he held positions including Director, Coverage and Associate Director in Investment Banking, where he focused on originating and executing capital markets transactions and advisory mandates for government-related entities, financial institutions, and large corporates.
Before joining HSBC, El Khoury worked with leading global financial institutions including Merrill Lynch and Rothschild, where he gained extensive exposure to M&A advisory, corporate finance, and capital markets transactions in the Middle East.
Strategic Role in a Key Global Investment Hub
The United Arab Emirates hosts some of the world’s largest sovereign wealth funds, which collectively manage trillions of dollars in global assets and play a pivotal role in international capital markets.
In his new role, El Khoury is expected to strengthen HSBC’s strategic partnerships with these institutions while supporting their expanding investment mandates across global markets, infrastructure, technology, and sustainable finance.
His promotion highlights HSBC’s broader strategy to enhance senior leadership coverage for key sovereign investors in the Gulf region as capital flows from the Middle East continue to shape global dealmaking and investment trends.
