Mohamed Said Al Abri, CEO of Muscat Clearing and Depository Company (MCD), has been elected to the Board of Directors of the Africa and Middle East Depositories Association (AMEDA).

MCD announced the election, highlighting its role in strengthening Oman’s representation across regional and international capital market institutions.

Mohammed Said Al Abri leadership experience

Al Abri has served as CEO of Muscat Clearing and Depository Company since January 2023. Previously, he held several senior positions at Oman’s Capital Market Authority.

He served as Vice President of the Capital Market Sector from November 2017 to January 2023. His earlier responsibilities included serving as Director General of Issues and Disclosures and holding another Director General position.

Before these appointments, Al Abri worked as Vice President of Business Development at Al Hosn Investment Company. He also served as Director of the Insurance Audit and Surveillance Department at the Capital Market Authority.

AMEDA Board Election strengthens regional representation

Al Abri’s election gives MCD a place on AMEDA’s Board of Directors. The association brings together clearing and depository institutions across Africa and the Middle East.

According to MCD, his appointment creates opportunities for greater cooperation and the exchange of expertise among member institutions.

The company also highlighted the opportunity to share best practices in clearing and depository operations. Through this representation, MCD aims to support collaboration and integration among financial market infrastructure institutions.

Academic background and professional development

Mohamed Said Al Abri holds a Master of Laws in Banking and Finance Law from Queen Mary University of London.

He also completed the Advanced Management Programme at Harvard Business School in 2019. Earlier, he undertook the Advanced Strategic Management programme at IMD Business School in 2013.

His election to AMEDA’s Board of Directors adds a regional leadership responsibility to his existing role at MCD. It also provides another channel for the company to participate in discussions on capital market development and institutional cooperation.
