LG Electronics has appointed Ahmad Abed as Chief Operating Officer of its ES Company Air Conditioning division for the Middle East and Africa (MEA). The move supports the company’s plan to expand its HVAC business across the region.

The appointment takes effect immediately. It comes as demand for energy-efficient cooling solutions continues to grow. Rapid urbanisation, major infrastructure projects, and sustainability targets are driving this demand.

Abed will lead operational strategy, commercial performance, and business development across the MEA region.

Experienced HVAC Leader Takes Regional Role

Abed brings nearly 20 years of HVAC industry experience. He has also spent close to a decade with LG Electronics.

Most recently, he served as Gulf Sales Director for LG HVAC. In that role, he managed commercial operations across GCC markets. He worked closely with developers, contractors, consultants, and project owners. As a result, he developed strong knowledge of regional construction trends and cooling requirements.

His experience spans the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, and Qatar.

“The MEA region is at a pivotal stage in its development, with major infrastructure projects, urban expansion efforts, and rising energy-efficiency expectations influencing how organisations approach cooling,” said Ahmad Abed, Chief Operating Officer, LG ES Company Air Conditioning MEA.

He added that LG will continue working closely with customers and partners. Furthermore, the company aims to help organisations improve efficiency through smart HVAC technologies.

HVAC Remains a Strategic Growth Priority

The appointment aligns with LG’s broader business strategy. HVAC remains one of the company’s key B2B growth pillars.

In late 2025, LG introduced organisational changes to accelerate growth. The company created dedicated teams for applied HVAC solutions, mergers and acquisitions, and international sales. Consequently, LG strengthened its focus on global HVAC expansion.

The company has identified the MEA region as a priority growth market. Therefore, leadership investments remain an important part of its strategy.

Michael Park, Vice President of LG ES Company MEA, said Abed’s commercial expertise and industry relationships make him well suited for the role.

“His deep familiarity with LG’s product portfolio, combined with his track record of building commercial relationships across the Gulf, positions him well to lead our HVAC business through the next phase of growth,” Park said.

Smart Cooling Technologies Support Expansion

LG has built a strong presence across commercial and large-scale projects. Its portfolio includes Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) systems, air-cooled chillers, and building energy management solutions.

Among its flagship products is the MULTI V 5 VRF platform. The system uses artificial intelligence to optimise cooling performance in large buildings. Additionally, LG offers the BECON energy management platform. This solution helps facility managers monitor and reduce energy consumption.

As energy costs rise, these technologies are attracting greater interest. Moreover, many organisations are looking for ways to improve sustainability performance.

Infrastructure Growth Creates New Opportunities

The Middle East and Africa continue to offer significant opportunities for HVAC providers.

Governments across the region are investing in tourism projects, commercial developments, industrial facilities, and smart cities. At the same time, regulators are encouraging higher energy-efficiency standards. Consequently, demand for advanced cooling systems continues to increase.

LG says its HVAC systems can deliver full cooling capacity at temperatures of up to 43°C. They can also continue operating in temperatures as high as 52°C. Therefore, the systems are well suited to Gulf climate conditions.

Looking ahead, Abed plans to expand LG’s presence in underserved markets. He will also strengthen partnerships with contractors, consultants, and system integrators. In addition, the company aims to accelerate adoption of intelligent and energy-efficient HVAC solutions across the region.
