The University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST) and Qatar Cool have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to expand cooperation in student learning, research, professional development and sustainability.
The partnership will link academic learning with current industry needs. It will also give students more opportunities to work on practical challenges alongside industry professionals.
The MoU was signed at UDST by Dr Salem Al-Naemi, President of the University, and Nahar Saleh Al-Mutawah, Acting Chief Executive Officer of Qatar Cool.
UDST, Qatar Cool to expand internships and applied learning
Under the agreement, the two organisations will work on student competitions, hackathons, applied learning initiatives and research projects.
The partnership will also cover curriculum development, internships and training. In addition, both sides will explore initiatives linked to sustainability and energy efficiency.
As a result, students will have opportunities to apply their academic knowledge to real industry problems. They will also gain exposure to professional practices and emerging technologies.
Dr Salem Al-Naemi said industry partnerships form an important part of UDST’s applied education model.
“Industry partnerships are an important part of UDST’s applied education model, providing students with opportunities to apply their knowledge to real-world challenges.”
He added that the collaboration with Qatar Cool would help students develop skills in innovation and applied professional work.
Qatar Cool builds on student hackathon
The agreement follows the Qatar Cool Hackathon, which was organised with UDST’s College of Engineering and Technology.
During the hackathon, students developed solutions to industry-related challenges. The programme gave participants an opportunity to apply engineering knowledge to practical problems.
Qatar Cool also recognised the winning students after the MoU signing ceremony. The company distributed commemorative plaques to the hackathon winners.
Nahar Al-Mutawah said the initiative aims to help students connect academic knowledge with business needs.
“We believe in the important role the next generation of engineers can play in developing innovative solutions to real-world challenges.”
He said the QC³ Hackathon also supports creative approaches to energy efficiency and environmental stewardship.
Partnership links skills development with Qatar’s energy priorities
The collaboration will bring more industry input into the educational experience at UDST.
Students will be able to engage with professionals and explore technologies relevant to Qatar’s energy and sustainability priorities. They will also work on solutions linked to practical industry requirements.
For employers, such partnerships can create a closer link between education and the skills needed in the workplace.
The agreement also supports UDST’s wider applied learning model. The university focuses on technical and professional education and works with industry through training, research and student development.
