According to Times of Oman, registration for the second edition of the Innovation Centres Support Programme will open on Wednesday, aiming to strengthen university innovation hubs and support entrepreneurship in line with Oman Vision 2040. The initiative targets public and private higher education institutions across the Sultanate through the Research Information Management System (RIMS).
Oman Innovation Centres open new opportunities for Universities
The online application process aims to simplify access for eligible institutions while ensuring a structured review of proposals. As a result, universities and colleges can submit plans that demonstrate their innovation goals and long-term development strategies.
The programme also encourages institutions to strengthen research capabilities and create environments where innovative ideas can develop into practical products and services. This approach supports collaboration between students, researchers, entrepreneurs, and industry partners.
In addition, financial and technical assistance will help institutions improve infrastructure, adopt modern technologies, and expand innovation services. These efforts are expected to strengthen entrepreneurial activity and encourage greater participation in Oman’s growing knowledge-based economy.
Research and Innovation authority expands innovation programme
The two funding tracks allow higher education institutions to choose support based on their stage of development and innovation needs. This flexible approach helps both new and existing centres strengthen their capabilities and expand their impact.
The Establishment Track supports the creation of fully equipped innovation centres, while the Empowerment Track focuses on improving existing facilities and enhancing the services available to innovators and entrepreneurs. Together, they encourage continuous institutional development.
In addition, the programme combines financial assistance with technical guidance to help institutions implement projects effectively. Consequently, participating universities and colleges can build stronger innovation ecosystems while supporting research, entrepreneurship, and technology-driven solutions.
Oman Innovation Centres support knowledge economy
Al Rashdi also explained that the programme supports the creation of an environment where research and innovation can translate into practical business opportunities. Through stronger institutional support, universities can help innovators turn ideas into commercially viable products and services.
She noted that encouraging entrepreneurship within higher education institutions remains a key objective of the initiative. At the same time, the programme helps strengthen collaboration between researchers, students, and industry partners to accelerate innovation.
The initiative also contributes to building a stronger knowledge-based economy by supporting innovation-led enterprises. Consequently, Oman Innovation Centres continue to promote research excellence, technology development, startup growth, and long-term economic competitiveness.
Innovation programme advances Oman vision 2040 goals
The results from the first edition demonstrate the Authority’s continued commitment to strengthening innovation across higher education institutions. By supporting both new and existing centres, the programme has helped expand opportunities for research, entrepreneurship, and technology development.
The eligibility criteria also encourage institutions to maintain strong governance and long-term sustainability. Alongside financial capacity, applicants must establish clear intellectual property policies that protect innovators and support responsible research practices.
Through these measures, the programme continues to strengthen collaboration between universities, researchers, and entrepreneurs. As a result, Oman Innovation Centres play an important role in advancing Oman Vision 2040, enhancing global competitiveness, and transforming research outcomes into economic and commercial value.
