Green jobs in India are expanding as the country increases investment in renewable energy, electric vehicles, and sustainable industries. According to India Today “What are green jobs? How can they get you a government job by 2030?” published on March 4, the shift toward clean energy is creating new employment opportunities nationwide.

Electric vehicle jobs India and renewable energy growth

India’s transition toward clean energy is accelerating. As a result, green jobs in India are expected to grow rapidly in the coming decade.

The government has set a target of achieving 500 gigawatts of non-fossil fuel energy capacity by 2030. This goal places renewable sectors such as solar power, wind energy, and green hydrogen at the center of economic growth.

At the same time, electric vehicle jobs India are increasing as EV manufacturing, battery production, and vehicle servicing expand across the country.

Renewable energy sector could create millions of jobs

Industry estimates suggest large employment gains from this transition. According to the Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW), India’s renewable energy sector alone could generate 3.4 million jobs by 2030.

Meanwhile, the Green Hydrogen Mission could create more than 600,000 skilled positions. Engineers, technicians, and researchers are expected to play a key role in this emerging industry.

In addition, the electric vehicle ecosystem may generate 10 million direct jobs and 50 million indirect jobs, strengthening the demand for green jobs in India across manufacturing and supply chains.

Education paths for green jobs in India

Students interested in green jobs in India can start preparing after Class 12. Diploma courses in renewable energy technology, solar systems, and electrical engineering provide entry-level opportunities.

ITI programs such as electrician, wireman, and solar installation training also offer pathways into the workforce.

Graduates can pursue advanced qualifications such as BTech in Electrical or Environmental Engineering, MTech in Renewable Energy, or MBA in Sustainability Management. These programs support careers in solar energy, EV technology, and environmental management.

Salaries and future outlook for green jobs

Entry-level roles in solar or EV industries typically offer Rs 2.5 lakh to Rs 4 lakh per year. Engineers and managers can earn Rs 6 lakh to Rs 12 lakh annually at the beginning of their careers.

Experts say the demand for skilled professionals will continue to increase. As investments grow and technology advances, green jobs in India may become one of the fastest-growing employment sectors in the coming decade.

The expansion of renewable energy, electric mobility, and sustainable infrastructure indicates that the sector will remain an important driver of both economic and environmental progress.
