The United Arab Emirates has begun building what is set to become the world’s largest artificial intelligence campus, marking a major step in its long-term technology strategy. The 5GW UAE-US AI campus is already under construction, with the first phase of 200 megawatts expected to go live soon.

Importantly, the first batch of advanced AI chips has already arrived in the country. More shipments are on the way, reinforcing the speed at which the project is moving.

Strategic UAE-US Partnership Anchors AI Expansion

Speaking at the SCSP AI+ Expo, UAE Ambassador to the US Yousef Al Otaiba emphasised the scale and intent behind the initiative. He described the UAE-US collaboration as one of the most significant economic partnerships of the decade.

Moreover, he made it clear that the UAE is fully aligned with American technology. The country is not diversifying away but instead deepening its reliance on US innovation.

The numbers underline that commitment. The UAE has already invested around $1 trillion in the US. Additionally, it plans to commit $1.4 trillion over the next decade. More than 30 bilateral deals have also been signed in the past year alone.

5GW AI Campus to Power Global Access

The AI campus, based in Abu Dhabi, is designed to be a global computing hub. It will support advanced AI workloads and large-scale data processing.

Notably, the infrastructure could serve nearly half of the world’s population. This positions the UAE as a bridge between advanced AI capabilities and emerging markets.

Furthermore, the project aims to demonstrate how advanced technology can be deployed responsibly at scale. It also reflects a broader ambition to export AI capabilities beyond developed economies.

Long-Term Vision Behind UAE’s AI Leadership

The UAE’s current position in AI did not emerge overnight. Instead, it reflects more than a decade of focused planning and investment.

For instance, the country appointed the world’s first Minister of AI in 2017. It also established the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence to build talent and research capabilities.

As a result, the UAE has created a strong foundation that now supports large-scale infrastructure projects like the AI campus.

New Frameworks to Secure AI Infrastructure

Alongside infrastructure, the UAE is also building regulatory systems. These frameworks aim to ensure secure and transparent deployment of AI technologies.

They cover key areas such as supply chains, critical minerals, and advanced computing systems. Consequently, the UAE is positioning itself within what officials describe as the “architecture of the silicon age.”

Trust and resilience remain central themes. The country is strengthening data centres, energy systems, and logistics networks to reduce vulnerabilities. This approach reflects lessons learned from operating in a complex regional environment.

A Global Model for AI Deployment

The UAE is not only investing in scale but also in governance and reliability. According to Al Otaiba, the goal is to build AI infrastructure that is trusted, secure, and globally deployable.

Therefore, the project is being framed as a working model for other nations. It combines capital investment, strategic partnerships, and regulatory oversight in a single ecosystem.

As construction progresses, the UAE’s AI campus could redefine how countries build and scale artificial intelligence infrastructure worldwide.
