Dubai: Emirates Airline has launched a major recruitment push as part of its expansion drive, aiming to hire 5,000 pilots over the next eight years. The move comes as the airline accelerates growth to meet soaring global travel demand, according to a coverage by Gulf News.
During the sixth graduation ceremony at the Emirates Flight Training Academy (EFTA), Co-Deputy President and Chief Operating Officer Adel Ahmed Al Redha highlighted the Emirates’ expansion drive. He explained that the airline will combine cadet graduates, direct-entry recruits, and international pilots. As a result, Emirates can maintain service quality while scaling its operations rapidly.
Emirates’ expansion drive boosts pilot recruitment
Al Redha explained that no single source could supply the required number of pilots. Therefore, Emirates combines several approaches. “We will recruit both experienced pilots from other carriers and graduates from our academy. We will also consider international candidates,” he said.
This strategy ensures a steady flow of trained professionals ready to operate Emirates’ expanding fleet. Currently, over 300 academy graduates already fly for the airline. “The academy trains young pilots with the airline’s mindset from the beginning,” Al Redha added.
Fleet growth adds urgency
Emirates has commitments for nearly 375 widebody aircraft, including Boeing 777X, 777F, 787, and Airbus A350-900 jets. The recent Dubai Airshow further increased orders for both the 777X and A350. As a result, the expansion drive demands rapid pilot recruitment to staff these aircraft efficiently.
Industry forecasts suggest that Middle Eastern carriers will need more than 10,000 new pilots by 2030. Emirates’ plan forms part of a broader talent acquisition initiative, which also aims to hire 17,300 employees across 350 roles this financial year.
Who can apply
The airline welcomes applications from cadets trained at EFTA, direct-entry candidates, and internationally trained pilots. Emirates’ multi-channel approach creates opportunities for both experienced aviators and aspiring pilots ready to start their careers.
Al Redha stressed that the expansion drive balances operational needs with training quality. By combining academy graduates with external talent, Emirates aims to maintain high service standards while scaling rapidly.
Emirates’ expansion drive sets the stage for future aviation growth
With this ambitious plan, Emirates expects to strengthen its position as a global aviation leader. Its expansion drive highlights the airline’s commitment to workforce development and meeting the rising travel demand efficiently.
