Ayman El-Saleh has been appointed Dean of Research, Innovation and Postgraduate Studies at A’Sharqiyah University in Oman. The appointment comes alongside his academic promotion to Professor of Electronics and Communication Engineering.
In his new role, El-Saleh will focus on advancing research quality and impact, strengthening the university’s innovation ecosystem, and enhancing its postgraduate programmes and outcomes.
Ayman El-Saleh takes new academic leadership role
El-Saleh has been with A’Sharqiyah University since September 2017. Before his latest appointment, he served as Director of Research and Innovation from October 2022 to September 2026.
His earlier leadership roles at the university include Director of Research and Graduate Studies and Acting Director of Research and Graduate Studies. He also chaired the University Research and Enterprise Committee for five months.
The appointment expands his academic leadership responsibilities across research, innovation and postgraduate education. El-Saleh said he aims to improve research impact and strengthen the university’s innovation ecosystem.
He also intends to enhance the quality of postgraduate programmes and their outcomes. His stated goal is to support A’Sharqiyah University’s position within the higher education landscape nationally, regionally and globally.
Research and academic background
Before joining A’Sharqiyah University, El-Saleh spent 11 years at Multimedia University. His roles included Senior Lecturer and Chair of the Center for Wireless Technology. He also served as Connectivity University Research Theme Lead.
El-Saleh received his BSc in Communications Engineering from Omar El-Mukhtar University in Libya in 1999. He later earned an MSc in Microelectronics Engineering and a PhD in Wireless Communications from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.
His academic work covers cognitive radio networks and heterogeneous LTE and LTE Advanced cellular networks. He also researches applications of artificial intelligence and evolutionary algorithms in wireless communications.
El-Saleh has published more than 100 journal and conference articles. He is also a Senior Member of IEEE and previously served on the Executive Committee of the IEEE Malaysia ComSoc/VTS Joint Chapter in 2015 and 2016.

In announcing the appointment, El-Saleh thanked Vice Chancellor Yahya Al-Wahaibi and Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Research Ibrahim Al-Harthy for their trust and confidence.
His new position combines responsibility for research, innovation and postgraduate studies while he serves as Professor of Electronics and Communication Engineering. His profile lists both appointments from September 2026.
