According to Times of Oman, “Oman and France: A deep-rooted strategic partnership and promising horizons for joint cooperation,” published on June 27, 2026, Oman and France are strengthening bilateral cooperation ahead of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik’s official visit to France. The partnership covers trade, investment, technology, energy, education, and regional coordination.

Oman France strategic partnership 2026 expands Bilateral cooperation

The Oman France strategic partnership continues to grow through closer coordination between the leadership of both countries. His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik and French President Emmanuel Macron have maintained regular discussions on regional developments, maritime security, international trade, and future cooperation.

At the same time, both governments are expanding collaboration across renewable energy, logistics, industry, tourism, food security, infrastructure, defence, and advanced technology. These sectors support Oman Vision 2040 while creating new opportunities for long-term economic cooperation.

In April 2026, Oman and France also held their first strategic dialogue in Paris. The discussions focused on investment, energy security, education, culture, and training, creating a broader framework for future collaboration.

Investment and trade drive Bilateral economic growth and innovation

Economic cooperation remains a key pillar of the Oman France strategic partnership. During MIPIM 2026 in Cannes, Oman signed 17 investment and development agreements worth more than RO762 million, supporting future cities and integrated residential projects.

Meanwhile, the Oman-France Business Council continues to strengthen commercial ties between companies in both countries. The Council also supports investment opportunities while encouraging greater private-sector cooperation through business meetings and trade initiatives.

Trade between Oman and France exceeded RO100 million in 2025. French exports to Oman increased to RO70.8 million, while Omani exports to France surpassed RO29 million, including aluminium, iron, polyethylene, pharmaceuticals, and other products.

Oman France strategic partnership supports investment and innovation

The Oman France strategic partnership has also encouraged higher levels of French investment in Oman. By the end of 2025, around 298 companies with French participation were registered in the Sultanate, up from 210 a year earlier. French invested capital also increased to more than RO19.7 million, with investments concentrated in wholesale and retail trade, professional services, information, and communications.

Meanwhile, both countries continue to explore opportunities in renewable energy, green hydrogen, logistics, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and the blue economy. French companies are already involved in projects such as the joint LNG development between OQ Group and TotalEnergies, the Manah 1 solar project, OmanSat-1, and power and water projects in Barka and Sohar.

Official visit opens new areas of economic and technology cooperation

His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik’s official visit to France will further strengthen the Oman France strategic partnership. During the visit, leaders from both countries plan to sign agreements and memoranda of understanding that will expand cooperation in investment, trade, technology, transport, water treatment, renewable energy, and environmental projects.

At the same time, cooperation continues to expand beyond economic sectors. Oman and France are strengthening academic exchanges, scholarship programmes, language education, and professional training. Both countries also continue to coordinate on regional and international issues while supporting dialogue, international law, and peaceful solutions.

Going forward, business leaders from both countries expect stronger private-sector cooperation through the Oman-France Business Council. They also see new opportunities to increase trade, attract investment, and develop partnerships that support Oman Vision 2040 while strengthening long-term economic relations between Oman and France.
