Whirlpool Corp. confirmed the job reductions at its Amana facility, where about 1,500 people work. The company said the cuts represent more than a quarter of the plant’s workforce. The layoffs are set to begin on March 9 and will impact nearly 350 employees. Whirlpool explained that the decision connects to ongoing operational adjustments at the site.

Whirlpool also noted that more staffing changes could happen in the second quarter. The company said it continues to assess operational requirements as it updates the site. Executives linked the reductions to a broader modernization plan that will reshape production and expand the plant’s future role.

Whirlpool plant restructuring forms part of a multi-year plan to broaden operations at Amana. The company said the plant will keep producing several refrigerator models while adding warehousing, parts production, and sub-assembly work.

The Whirlpool job cuts will affect union employees, although a company spokesman said recall chances remain low. Union workers will still keep recall rights for two to five years, depending on seniority.

Whirlpool said it will provide on-site human resources support, access to an employee assistance program, and guidance on unemployment benefits through Iowa Workforce Development.

The company said it will continue sharing updates with employees as more information becomes available. Whirlpool job cuts remain part of a broader restructuring process tied to the plant’s evolving role.
