Oman AI survey technology has taken centre stage as the Sultanate introduced the results of the world’s first Artificial Intelligence Household Income and Expenditure Survey. The initiative, led by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI), replaces traditional data collection methods with AI to improve the efficiency, accuracy and sustainability of official statistics.
The project supports Oman Vision 2040 and aims to strengthen economic planning through faster and more reliable national data. Officials said the initiative reflects the country’s continued focus on digital transformation and innovation.
Oman launches first AI powered household income survey
The National Centre for Statistics and Information introduced the project during a ceremony at its headquarters in Muscat. The initiative uses artificial intelligence to collect and analyse household income and expenditure data, reducing the time, effort and resources required for traditional surveys.
As a result, the Oman AI survey provides integrated information that supports national planning while improving the quality of official statistics.

Dr. Khalifa bin Abdullah Al Barwani, Chief Executive Officer of the NCSI, described the initiative as a new stage in the country’s statistical development. He said the AI driven approach provides detailed data on consumer spending patterns and establishes the relative weights used to calculate the Consumer Price Index.
Furthermore, the project helps improve inflation measurement and supports more informed economic policymaking. Therefore, it strengthens the role of data in shaping national priorities.
National talent drives AI innovation forward
According to Dr. Al Barwani, national talent developed the project, demonstrating Oman’s growing capabilities in artificial intelligence. He added that the survey forms part of a wider roadmap to expand AI applications across other statistical fields.
Consequently, the Oman AI survey represents an important step in the country’s digital transformation while supporting the long term objectives of Oman Vision 2040.
