According to ONA, on June 23, 2026, the Environment Authority launched the second version of the Washaq supervisory system in Muscat during Cyber Security Awareness Week. The initiative supports Oman Cybersecurity Strategy by strengthening environmental data protection, improving digital readiness, and enhancing regulatory oversight.

The upgraded Washaq system will also help improve coordination between regulatory teams by providing more efficient access to inspection and monitoring data. In turn, this can support faster reporting processes and strengthen oversight across environmental operations.

Meanwhile, the consultancy agreement with ITHCA Group reflects the Authority’s focus on expanding digital infrastructure. The Environmental Data Bank project will bring environmental information into a unified platform, making it easier for institutions to organise, analyse, and access critical data.

During Cyber Security Awareness Week, the Authority also highlighted the importance of secure digital systems in protecting information assets. Together, these initiatives support stronger governance, improve data management practices, and enhance the use of technology in environmental planning and regulatory activities.

The awareness week also created a platform for knowledge sharing among public sector leaders, industry experts, and academic institutions. As a result, participants explored current cybersecurity challenges and exchanged insights on strengthening digital resilience across organisations.

At the same time, discussions focused on governance frameworks, risk assessment strategies, and the growing need for secure digital environments. These sessions encouraged closer cooperation between stakeholders working to protect critical systems and information assets.

The exhibition further supported these objectives by showcasing practical cybersecurity applications and emerging technologies. Through live demonstrations and expert engagement, attendees gained a better understanding of modern approaches to data protection, cyber risk mitigation, and digital security management.

Al Husaini added that the awareness week has evolved over the past four years to support the Authority’s broader digital transformation goals. As participation has expanded, the initiative has continued to strengthen cybersecurity awareness and encourage the adoption of secure digital practices across institutions.

He also highlighted the growing importance of cybersecurity in safeguarding information systems and ensuring operational continuity. In addition, organisations increasingly rely on strong security frameworks to protect data, manage risks, and maintain public trust in digital services.

Consequently, this year’s programme promoted collaboration among government entities, academic institutions, and technology experts. These discussions focused on sharing expertise, addressing emerging cyber threats, and enhancing collective preparedness in an increasingly digital environment.

Oman Cybersecurity strategy supports long term digital readiness

These sessions examined emerging trends that continue to shape the cybersecurity landscape. Participants reviewed the risks associated with artificial intelligence technologies while also discussing the responsibilities of senior leadership in strengthening cyber governance and oversight.

At the same time, experts shared insights on risk management practices, regulatory considerations, and strategies for building secure digital environments. These discussions helped participants better understand the evolving nature of cyber threats and the importance of proactive security measures.

The programme also reinforced the value of responsible technology use across government institutions and partner organisations. As a result, Oman Cybersecurity Strategy continues to support stronger governance frameworks, improve risk management capabilities, and promote a culture of digital security throughout the public sector.
