Saudi Arabia has reinforced its position in global higher education after 22 universities secured places in the QS World University Rankings 2027.

Leading the national list was King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, which ranked 63rd globally. The achievement places the institution among the world’s top 100 universities and highlights the Kingdom’s growing academic influence.

Meanwhile, King Saud University secured the 107th position worldwide. King Abdulaziz University followed in 200th place. Prince Mohammad bin Fahd University ranked 421st, while Imam Abdulrahman Bin Faisal University placed 474th globally.

Broad Representation Across Saudi Higher Education

Several other Saudi universities also earned positions in the international rankings. These included Prince Sultan University, King Khalid University, King Faisal University, Umm Al-Qura University, and Qassim University.

In addition, Imam Mohammad Ibn Saud Islamic University, Alfaisal University, and Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University featured on the list. Taif University, Effat University, and Majmaah University also secured rankings.

The list further included the Islamic University of Madinah, Northern Borders University, the University of Hail, the University of Tabuk, and Taibah University.

Rankings Reflect Progress in Research and Innovation

The strong showing reflects continued improvements across Saudi Arabia’s higher education sector. Universities have expanded their focus on academic quality, scientific research, and innovation-driven learning.

As a result, Saudi institutions are gaining greater recognition on the global stage. The rankings also demonstrate the sector’s growing competitiveness in attracting talent, research opportunities, and international collaborations.

Supporting Saudi Vision 2030 Goals

The latest QS rankings align with Saudi Vision 2030, which seeks to build a diversified and knowledge-based economy.

Higher education remains a key pillar of that strategy. By strengthening research capabilities and academic excellence, universities are expected to play a larger role in driving innovation, workforce development, and long-term economic growth.

The inclusion of 22 universities in the QS World University Rankings 2027 underscores Saudi Arabia’s ambition to become a leading global destination for education and research.
