Al Wusta Governorate development projects worth OMR 37.5 Million
Al Wusta Governorate is moving ahead with more than 173 development, tourism, and economic projects valued at over OMR37.5 million. The projects are spread across different wilayats and focus on improving infrastructure, public services, and investment opportunities. Officials shared the latest progress during a media briefing in Duqm under the theme Development in Sight & A Future Under Construction.
Governor Sheikh Ahmed Musallam Al Kathiri said the governorate continues to attract investment because of its strategic location and growing economic potential. He explained that cooperation between government entities has helped accelerate development across multiple sectors. The projects also support the objectives of Oman Vision 2040 and the Eleventh Five-Year Plan.
The programme focuses on improving quality of life while preparing the governorate for future growth. It combines urban development with modern infrastructure and service improvements. As a result, Al Wusta Governorate continues to strengthen its position as an important development hub in the Sultanate.
Transport and infrastructure projects strengthen regional connectivity
Transport infrastructure remains one of the largest investment priorities across Al Wusta Governorate. Several road projects are progressing to improve connectivity between wilayats, economic zones, and industrial areas. These investments aim to support safer travel while making the movement of goods more efficient across the region.
Current projects include asphalt road maintenance worth OMR6.4 million, the completion of the North Haima dual carriageway valued at OMR44 million, and the third phase of the South Haima dual carriageway project worth OMR70 million. Internal road construction and waterfront development are also underway in several wilayats to improve urban services and public spaces.
These infrastructure upgrades are expected to support residents, businesses, and investors alike. Better transport links can improve access to industrial zones, encourage commercial activity, and create a stronger foundation for long-term regional development. At the same time, improved urban planning enhances the overall appeal of the governorate.
Al Wusta Governorate expands tourism and healthcare projects
Tourism remains another important focus area for Al Wusta Governorate. Natural attractions continue to receive investment through projects that encourage sustainable tourism while protecting the environment. The Mahout Wetland Reserve project, valued at OMR4 million, and the Arabian Oryx Reserve project in Duqm, worth OMR9.2 million, support Tourism investment in Oman and strengthen the governorate’s tourism profile.
Healthcare development is progressing alongside tourism initiatives. The Mahout Hospital project, estimated at nearly OMR17 million, will expand healthcare access for residents and nearby communities. Other projects include the Emergency and Accident Unit at Duqm Hospital, funded by OQ Group with OMR2.3 million, the Emergency Unit in Al Jazir, and a new training centre for healthcare professionals.
Together, these investments improve essential public services while supporting community well-being. Better healthcare facilities, combined with tourism development, contribute to balanced regional growth and help create stronger social and economic opportunities across the governorate.
Agriculture, fisheries and investment support future growth
Beyond infrastructure and tourism, Al Wusta Governorate continues to invest in fisheries, livestock, agriculture, and water resources. Aquaculture projects in Duqm and Mahout represent investments of OMR503.5 million, making the sector one of the largest contributors to future economic activity. Shrimp and sea cucumber farming projects further strengthen marine production across the governorate.
The livestock sector also continues to expand through several projects. These include a broiler breeder and fertilised egg production facility in Haima valued at OMR61.5 million, a camel milk production project in Mahout worth OMR7.69 million, and the Nusra poultry project. Ice factories across different wilayats also support fisheries and food production activities.
Agricultural and water infrastructure projects complete the broader development programme. Wadi Al Sail water station, a water purification plant serving Duqm and Haima, and a fodder project in Haima will improve water management and agricultural productivity. Together, these investments strengthen economic diversification while supporting sustainable development goals across Al Wusta Governorate.
