According to Times of Oman (published on May 31, 2026), Oman’s Ministry of Labour has begun enforcing the annual midday work ban from June 1 across the Sultanate. The measure restricts outdoor work during peak afternoon hours and aims to protect workers from extreme summer temperatures as several regions record heat levels close to 49°C.
The Ministry of Labour reminded companies that workers cannot perform duties in open areas exposed to direct sunlight between 12:30pm and 3:30pm throughout June, July and August. The rule applies to construction sites and other outdoor workplaces.
Oman midday Work Ban takes effect june 2026 across Sultanate
The annual restriction remains one of the key workplace safety measures implemented during the summer season. Every year, the Oman midday work ban limits outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day to reduce heat-related risks. The regulation runs from June 1 until August 31 and requires employers to organise work schedules around the restricted hours.
Officials reiterated that compliance remains mandatory across all sectors where employees work under direct sunlight. The ministry has enforced the regulation for several years and continues to monitor implementation across outdoor job sites. Previous enforcement actions included fines and legal measures against companies that failed to follow the requirements.
Heatwave conditions support Oman midday Work Ban enforcement
The launch of the Oman midday work ban coincides with high temperatures recorded across multiple governorates. Data from the Civil Aviation Authority showed that Saham registered the highest temperature during the previous 24 hours at 48.6°C.
Several other locations also experienced extreme conditions. Al Kamil Wa Al Wafi reached 47.9°C, followed by Sohar at 47.7°C and Fahud at 47.4°C. Al Rustaq recorded 47.3°C, while Dima Wat Tayeen registered 47.1°C. Wadi Al Maawil reached 46.8°C, and Muqshin, Sur, Bidbid and Muhkaiznah each recorded 46.6°C.
Oman midday Work Ban reinforces worker safety standards nationwide
The Oman midday work ban supports worker safety during periods of intense summer heat. Employers must ensure that outdoor duties stop during restricted hours and that workers remain away from locations exposed directly to sunlight.
The measure also strengthens compliance with workplace safety regulations across the construction sector and other outdoor industries. Through regular inspections and enforcement procedures, authorities continue to encourage adherence to labour standards while protecting workers during the hottest months of the year.
Labour ministry maintains focus on summer workplace protection
The Ministry of Labour stated that violations of the midday break rule can result in penalties that vary according to the nature and recurrence of the offence. Companies that ignore the regulation may face fines and other legal consequences. Authorities have continued inspections at outdoor work sites to ensure employers follow the requirements during the summer season.
As temperatures remain elevated across Oman, authorities continue implementing seasonal worker protection measures. The Oman midday work ban remains in place until the end of August and forms part of ongoing efforts to maintain safe working conditions throughout the summer period.
