Saudi universities have earned multiple international honours at the International AI on Education Competition in Hong Kong, reinforcing the Kingdom’s growing influence in artificial intelligence-driven education.
The competition, organised by the Artificial Intelligence Research and Education Alliance and The Education University of Hong Kong, brought together students, researchers and innovators from around the world. Participants showcased AI-powered technologies designed to improve teaching, learning and student outcomes.
The strong performance reflects Saudi Arabia’s continued investment in AI research and education as part of Vision 2030. Moreover, it highlights the country’s efforts to strengthen global academic collaboration while developing practical AI solutions for the education sector.
Umm Al-Qura University leads Saudi success
Umm Al-Qura University emerged as one of the competition’s strongest performers. The university won awards for Innovative Problem Discovery, Overall Performance, and Excellence in Educational Impact. It also received several Merit Awards.
In addition, the university gained recognition as an international partner of the competition after hosting the Gulf Cooperation Council regional qualifying round.
Jouf University recognised for AI platform supporting students with ADHD
Jouf University received an Excellence Award for Morph, an adaptive learning platform created for university students with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
Students Ghaida Al-Fallah and Safiyah Al-Rahim developed the platform under the supervision of Mashail Al-Khamsan.
Morph uses electroencephalography (EEG) signals to monitor students’ attention levels in real time. When concentration drops, the system automatically adjusts learning materials to help maintain engagement and improve learning outcomes.
More Saudi universities earn international recognition
Several other Saudi universities also secured honours across different competition categories.
King Saud University received an Excellence Award in the Zoom presentation category and reached the finals in the Embodied AI stream.
Meanwhile, the University of Jeddah and Baha University each won an Overall Performance Award for their AI projects.
Merit Awards also went to:
- Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University for its AI-powered virtual laboratory for plant tissue culture training.
- King Faisal University for its adaptive learning intelligence system.
- Majmaah University for its “3MIN TO WIN” project.
- Makkah Colleges for its AI innovation.
Furthermore, a team from Imam Mohammad Ibn Saud Islamic University received an Excellence Award and advanced to the finals in another competition stream.
Vision 2030 continues to accelerate AI education
The awards underline Saudi Arabia’s expanding role in artificial intelligence research and educational innovation. Universities across the Kingdom are increasingly developing AI technologies that address real-world learning challenges while strengthening international research partnerships.
