Dubai Customs has launched a new Center of Excellence for Customs and Trade Logistics in partnership with University of Dubai. The initiative aims to strengthen workforce capabilities, boost innovation, and advance digital expertise across the trade and logistics sector.

The move supports Dubai’s ambition to become one of the world’s leading trade hubs under the Dubai Economic Agenda D33 strategy. In addition, the centre will focus on preparing future-ready talent for a rapidly evolving global trade environment.

Research hub to improve customs operations and supply chain resilience

The new centre will operate as a research and knowledge hub for customs and trade logistics. It will focus on improving customs operations, strengthening supply chain resilience, and increasing trade efficiency through advanced technologies and applied research.

Moreover, the initiative will support evidence-based policy development and encourage innovation across the logistics ecosystem. Dubai Customs said the centre will help build smarter customs systems that align with international standards set by the World Customs Organization.

At the same time, the centre will help create a strong pipeline of professionals with expertise in digital trade systems, customs governance, logistics innovation, and supply chain management.

Global academic partnerships to support logistics innovation

The initiative will also expand collaboration between academia and industry. Dubai Customs confirmed partnerships with institutions including Kühne Logistics University, University of Adelaide, Michigan State University, and Henley Business School.

These partnerships will focus on developing solutions for cross-border e-commerce, trade security, sustainable logistics, and digital supply chain systems.

Dubai Customs highlights focus on innovation-led workforce development

His Excellency Dr Abdulla Busenad, Director General of Dubai Customs, said the centre represents a strategic investment in Dubai’s future readiness.

He added that the initiative will strengthen operational standards, accelerate trade activity, and support innovation-led workforce development in the customs and logistics sector.

Furthermore, Dubai Customs announced an innovation hackathon involving 110 students across 33 teams. Participants will develop solutions focused on AI-powered customs inspections, supply chain sustainability, SME trade services, smart trade transparency, and future logistics skills.

Dubai Customs said the centre will play a major role in empowering young talent, attracting innovation from academia and industry professionals, and building national capabilities that support the future of global trade and logistics.
