Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) in Oman has reported a strong 85% labour market satisfaction rate for its graduates, reflecting growing industry confidence in the institution’s academic output. The update came during the university’s annual media briefing in Muscat, where leadership outlined progress across key performance indicators.

Moreover, the university has aligned its strategy closely with Oman Vision 2040, reinforcing its role in shaping a knowledge-based economy. Officials confirmed that SQU made measurable progress on 13 strategic indicators in 2025, while four others are nearing their targets.

Global rankings improve as research output expands

SQU continues to strengthen its global academic standing. In the latest QS World University Rankings, the university secured the 334th position worldwide and ranked eighth across the Arab region.

At the same time, research output saw a notable rise. The university published 1,851 peer-reviewed research papers in 2025, highlighting its growing contribution to global knowledge. This improvement reflects focused investments in innovation, faculty development, and international collaboration.

Leadership highlights strategic progress and national role

Speaking at the event, Fahd bin Al Julanda al Said, Vice-Chancellor of SQU, emphasised that these achievements stem from sustained national support. He credited the backing of Haitham bin Tarik as a key driver behind advancements in education, research, and innovation.

He also noted that SQU continues to refine its operational plans to meet long-term national goals. As a result, the university has strengthened its academic quality, with 70% of its undergraduate programmes now accredited.

Academic excellence aligns with Oman’s future workforce goals

SQU’s progress signals a broader shift in Oman’s higher education landscape. By improving employability outcomes and research performance, the university is positioning itself as a critical contributor to workforce development.

Furthermore, its emphasis on accreditation, innovation, and global benchmarking ensures that graduates remain competitive in evolving job markets. This approach supports Oman’s ambition to diversify its economy and build a sustainable, skills-driven future.
