PM Modi on AI described artificial intelligence as a force-multiplier that may reshape some jobs but will also expand tech employment in India. Speaking to ANI on February 18, 2026, in New Delhi, he said AI matters now as India prepares for workforce change under Viksit Bharat 2047.

What changed in PM Modi on AI outlook

PM Modi on AI said technology has historically changed the nature of work instead of removing it completely. He stated that digital transformation will redefine some roles while creating new job categories across the economy.

He added that India is preparing its youth to lead the future of work through skills and readiness as AI adoption increases. Modi stressed that AI should be seen as a tool that strengthens human potential, not replaces it. He said new opportunities will emerge in areas like data, cybersecurity, AI services, and digital infrastructure. With the right training, India’s workforce can adapt quickly and stay globally competitive.

Impact on AI workforce transformation

AI workforce transformation remains a central focus as Modi said India is ready to handle disruption in employment patterns. He explained that AI can expand human capability but also needs responsible guidance to avoid testing social foundations.

He also said India is using AI to bridge divides and ensure opportunities reach beyond urban centres. Modi noted that AI can support farmers with better productivity, help students access learning in regional languages, and empower small businesses with digital tools. He stressed that India’s goal is inclusive growth, where AI benefits reach the last mile instead of staying limited to a narrow urban elite.

How India’s AI governance system works

PM Modi on AI highlighted India’s structured approach to regulation, including the launch of the IndiaAI Safety Institute in January 2025. He said the institute promotes ethical, safe, and responsible deployment of AI systems based on local risks and realities.

Modi linked this framework to the ongoing AI Impact Summit in New Delhi, hosted in the Global South. He said the summit follows the “people, planet, progress” model to ensure equitable outcomes.

He added that AI applications in governance, agriculture, climate, health, and multilingual access are shaping India’s human-centric vision.
